I've had birds fly across the nose of my 360. I think it's a game of "chicken" to them. Anyway, a couple of times, a bird would get sucked under the nose then spit out by the rear diffuser. I've not found blood streaks on the undertray yet but have picked out feathers.

James
I had heard that they got Brunswick Aerospace to stop the B1 bomber line and build the tub and that the strip thermomiters that are still affixed to various oil and water tanks and lines were classified at the time but haven't seen the R&T article. Could you scan and forward me a copy?

Chris, I'd have stopped to check. A questionable attached air dam could have broken off and caused a LOT more damage.

Chris, did you get to drive on the runway and how fast did you go?

I've lost track of the number of critters I've hit driving across White Sands Missile Range (in rental cars, fortunately). The memorable one was a bird in flight. A bird that couldn't ride the aerodynamics around the front of a Taurus? Think of it as evolution in action.

But when I was working on the Virginia/Carolina border (in "the Great Dismal Swamp"), we had a saying:
"Why did the chicken cross the road?"
"To prove to the Possum it could be done."

Ahhh, the Mk IV, I nearly forgot what an utterly gorgeous car that was. Getting off topic slightly, Jim did you ever read the amusing article in Road and Track where Ford pulled strings in Congress to get some of the Military budget spent on it's development?

"Remember the flames. Forget the rest."

Jim, that is a great quote.:-)

Chris, sounds like an awesome day. Sorry about the spoiler.

Chris
Always look at the bright side. After a long weekend of racing at Goodwood Festival of Speed in my MK-IV Ford asked if they could borrow the car for a photo shoot at Brands Hatch. Even though it delayed me a day getting back to the states I said sure. The transporter arrived before I did and the Martini Rally team unloads it and puts it in position but forgets to leave it in gear. I pull up as it begins to roll into the armco barrier pranging the nose. Since the day was blown I deceided to take David Piper up on his offer to come by and check out his P4.
Remember the flames. Forget the rest.
Best

How about a Turtle, we did not hit it but it caused a convoy of Ferraris( I think there were about 20 of us )doing nearly 100 mph to scatter to a stop on the river road ( a small two lane twisty that runs along side of the Mississippi River) it was a mess our good buddy Dave Goldman got out of his 328 and tossed the turtle (had to be 20- inches across) to safety. That sure would have been a helluva mess.

Damn possums...

I was on a major run with two members of this board - was a passenger in a F355 following a 360M blasting around the countryside when I saw a Pheasant waddle into the road.... - our speeds circa 80mph!!
BAM.... a mass of feathers, the 360M flies round the corner and the phesant is flapping around like a lunatic on the other side of the road.... we fly past in the F355 1 second later.
We didn't stop but we did laugh.. A LOT.
(kevin, eli - I do remember it right, right?)

No damage to the 360.. :-)

Damn good day you had by the looks of it Chris! Use that F40!!! Life's too short not to!!

I hit a coyote once doing near-triple-digit speeds (me, not the coyote) in the P-car. Not a pretty sight. Funny thing is, this guy in a Camaro (the REASON why I was doing near-triple-digit speeds) started flashing his lights at me as if he expected me to stop and do something to help it. What was I going to do, pick up a wounded coyote, put him in the P-car, and drive him to a vet? Yeah, right! It was 2am! There aren't any vets open at 2am. What was this guy thinking?

There is a list of "most prestigous death" for the possum population. You just made one a top 10 er.

LOL, Chris - If any animal rights group ever co-sponsored anything with FNA, they won't anymore...!

Seriously, glad everything seems relatively okay with the car; so far as the possum is concerned, well... these things happen...

Gee, makes my day seem kinda boring now... ;-)

What kind of road has a 20 MPH speed limit though? School zones aren't even that low around here!

Yesterday was a crazy day, got up a 5:20 (supposed to have been up at 5:00) to drive a 100 miles or so to Whiteman Airforce base for an airshow. (My best fried Daren, in his 400i PROMISED he would meet me there, guess who wimped out?) I decided to take the F40 (even though it still had slicks on it from the track event last weekend).

The airshow was cool, but hot has hell, so I decided to go to my boat I keep at the lake, its was about 100 miles away, another F40 run through the Missouri countryside!

I spent all afternoon on the boat, nice and relaxing. My wife calls me about 11:30PM and tells me I need to go home and feed the dogs and give our Dalmation her shot, she is diabetic, (Dana and the girls are at a softball tournament half across the state and could not get home till Sunday) ... damn, a 2 1/2 drive starting at midnight in the flame throwing F40, with no mufflers, so much for Fathers day on the boat!

As I am passing through Windsor, Missouri I try to be careful, a F40, with a competition exhaust that shoots major flames out the back tends to draw some attention. I was thinking I was doing ok and then... Hey, why am I seeing all of these red and blue lights?

Well I never saw the 20mph sign! The cop was cool though, in a few minutes another cop showed up and then we had about 6 cars stopped across the street just watching me talking to these cops, they were nice, gave me a warning, then we opened up the F40, looked it over and talked cars for a bit before I resumed my journey home...

Well about 5 miles later I topped a hill, and there he was, the biggest possum I have ever seen, his eyes glowing in the dark, a possum who had decided life was not worth living, no more eating out of trash cans for this guy.

BAM, dead possum at 80 mph and the sound of something bad to the spoiler on the F40!

I did not get out, I could not stand to see the damage, I had over an hour before I got home, so I decided I would wait to cry till I was home in my driveway!

Well it did not break it, but it pulled the spoiler away from the front of the car... not sure if it can be reattached or if a new one is in order....

But Hey, I did get to put 300 miles on the F40, so it was still a good day!
