I think you will be able to get to a lot of the parts for cleaning though. If you rack the car, their is a great deal of undercarrige you can tackle |

Paul..Please excuse all of my bla..bla..bla! When you said your mechanic sent you a picture of the engine, I did not know it was IN the car! This picture actually makes me feel good I towed the car home while my engine work was being done. |

Paul, YES! With my engine out, I went to town on the engine bay..Wow. What a friggen mess! First off, get about four pairs of old pants and as many shirts. Rubber gloves are needed also. Place a plastic tarp under the car. I dumped half a bottle of Simple Green in a small bucket of water. With a few various scrub brushes, I started degreasing the frame. When I was done, I did it again! I then used brake cleaner on most of the surfaces with several rags to get the remaining grease off. When all of the metal was cleaned, I sprayed the frame sections with black undercoat spray. The bay frame section looks like new! I also cleaned all of the suspension pieces in the same maner but did not paint them. I then masked off both firewalls. From an autobody supply store, they mixed me a mid-grey color. At home, I mixed it with the thinner and hardner as they instruced. I sprayed the firewalls with this paint using a propelant canister they sold me that screws to the jar that housed the paint. This came out REALLY nice! With the same paint, I sprayed the fuel tanks and they look like new. I took all of the tires off and cleaned and polished both sides. This bay was so clean, it made the already decent paint look just OK. I purchased a bottle of 3M's Perfect Car III polishing compound and cut the paint. The paint looks brand new!...I should have my engine back in about two weeks. I will be really glad that I spent the time I did on the bay cleaning. Coupled with a great looking engine, I had the valve covers powder coated with red on the raised sections....Lets swap pics in a few weeks! |

I made a couple of posts over the weekend with pictures. When viewing my posts, I looked at the pictures and noticed a bunch of little things that I can clean or polish. Looking at the pictures really give me a detailed perspective on these items that I had overlooked, i.e.: the inside of the front door jam could use Back-to-Black, some detailing needed in the pedal areas and so on....Just thought I would toss this out for thought. |
