Ron,
I have a racing jack and jacked up the Challenge car on the floor a few days ago and no problem. Again, if you do the work, put lots of thinset on the floor.
Unfortunately I did not take pictures when the floor was layed. Center it and when you are done put a little marble threshold in front of the door where the tile end and your pavers start. The checkered tiles is also a nice feature to lighten up the garage a little.
Gotta hurry to HD though they are running out of the black tiles 12x12. No more here in Miami. I bought the last ones.

Martin

I live in the Orlando area.

I plan to do what little work I can on my own, and will those tile withstand the pressures of a jack and the weight of the cars on it w/o cracking.. Most people say paint and seal the floor instead.. I want it to look really special. That's why I'm not giving up on the tiles....

Ron,
you mean mosquitos?

I get these little critters all the time. Leave the door open for a minute and they are in. We have them bad right now. You have to sneak in and out of the house now to avoid them.

As for a seal there is a rubber seal that is being epoxy'd onto the floor and seals right where the gararedoor comes down. I helped my neighbor install it for his garage to aoid water coming in. Worked pretty good.My floor is level so I do not need that.

As for the tiels, I have no problems with them at all. Had them in my old house and never had a cracked or broken tile. Whoever installes them needs to put a lot of thinset underneath that is all. It is just like concrete.
I used floor tile for 79c a sqft.
You an get a tile right now at HD for that as well, with a little texture and not pure white.

Where in FLA are you guys?

Remix.

I too live in Florida and I get all types of bugs in my garage. My wife almost hates going in there..

My driveway is made up of brick pavers and I assume that they crawl in between the bricks to get in. I don't get a proper seal when the doors are shut..

Martin.

I am dying to get some tiles on my garage floors (18x18) and everyone I speak with tell me to stay away from it.. How do you find them and do you recommend them for long term.

John,

There is a guy on Ferraichat his name is Nick Mrozinski he bought one of the $600 horses from the Ferrari store and it cracked in half, he works with fiberglass so he recast the horse, he has them in different colors for $400. The are made of resin. I have a black one I am going to hang in the house. he also has enameled scuderia badges nicer than Ferrari which I also bought for about $350 a pair. He is a great guy. He posted right above my post. I met him on this board and it turns out he lives in my town, small world! His number is 805-659-0259

Steve I wish I was your west coast distributor!!!!

Rock Star, (hey thats what I was in another life!)
Everyone makes fun of California but where I live in Ventura it is 75 degrees all year long, never rains, I can throw a rock (almost) from my house to the ocean, no bugs, but there are all those pesky girls in bikinis everywhere!!! Ive tried to set traps to no avail :-)

Do any of you guys live in Florida? If so, how in the hell do you manage to keep bugs (insects) out of your garages? No matter what I do I can't seem to keep the nasty little critters out of my garage. In the summer it's REALLY bad.

Thanks in advance.

Marc,

Which Epoxy did you use on the Floor - was it difficult to put down, also what did it cost you?

Rob...nice signs. Because I'm in the business of designing garages and some of the pictures will make it to magazines, I have to be careful about the use of corporate logos and trademarks (BMW has already given me a stern warning). I will be using a fair amount of theatrical lighting, both inside and out, for color and effect....some 3M fiber and some Color Kinetics RGB LED's. For general illumination, there will be a mix of PAR halogen, MR16 halogen, T5 florescent and a few metal halides. For maximum security and minimal UV exposure, I'd mimimize the use of windows and skylights in a garage with any expensive collection.

Lastly, for car guys that like to entertain, a little patio off the garage is a nice place to relax after working on the cars..see below.

Great garages guys!

I wish I had more room to work with! I liked the black look with track lights, makes it very dramatic especially at night. I do all my work myself so I opted for plain concrete. I knew jackstands or floorjacks would probably mess any flooring up, plus it makes it really exciting looking for the small ball bearings in the transmission pan when they fall and roll away!. I started collecting light-up signs and have a few nice ones now. The Ferrari sign came from an unspecified dealer in New York in the 70's. The long Pirelli one from the 60's.

Thanks for sharing all the photos, Steve you are one lucky guy!!!

I went through Steve's website a few months back detailing this garage project. In addition to looking better than most houses, there is more thought and technology in this garage than most space missions.

Sweet!

John, here's some photos of my garage remodel. It's nothing fancy, compared to the "shrines" that I've seen, but maybe it will give you some ideas. I went with flat white wall paint, grey epoxy floor paint and a small amount of checkered flooring.

I'm getting ready to paint my garage in preparation for the arrival of my 308, (when I locate one)
so I was wondering if anyone has or has seen some really good ideas for garages, (color of floors, walls, black white tile floor, ?? etc) Will be for a red car. Please post some pics if you have any. John
