Thanks, Martin. My take was that their saying that they'd done a 30K service in their shop meant next to nothing to me. Tim has maintained one of my cars for the past several years, and I certainly wouldn't buy anything without his thorough inspection. I was down for the weekend picking up my car from him and decided to drop by and see the 348C while I was there, despite my reservations about the seller- their reputation has preceded them!

Ira,
this car was for sale in 7/00 by pro-auto.com (215) 942-0891 for $69,500.
The miles then were 4000 so unless they did nothing with the car for the past years ther eis something wrong with the miles.

Giving the car comes from the Toy Store I would be on the low end of Robs evaluation. The 30K done? By the Toy Store? Yeah, right!

If you know Tim have the car shipped to him for evaluation. If you are $7K apart you are lightyears from each other and you may be too high in what you are willing to pay.

The fact that they say they ar ein business 27 years is a joke. The ownership changes every 2 years so the mountain of lawsuits does not bury them. Technically they are not even one year in business.

Yes, I'm well aware of the New Auto Toy Store's bad rep, which is why I tracked down the first owner. I had to laugh when the salesman told me that I should trust that they'd do right by me since they'd been in business for 27 years. To my knowledge, they haven't exactly been highly regarded during any of those many years of business! Might be a good car though, which is why I'd still consider buying it if the price reflected an allowance for a belt service by Tim Stanford, with whom I discussed the car before going to see it. Any further thoughts out there? Thanks.

In my effort to buy a better track car, I looked at a 348 tb Serie Speciale Challenge car over the weekend at The New Auto Toy Store in Ft. Lauderdale. Having tracked down the original owner, I can tell you that the 4,800 miles the car shows is probably accurate- this guy drove the car on the street for a while, then had a Challenge kit installed by Wide World and drove it in 4-5 Challenge races before retiring it to an FCA track event car- his recollection of the mileage when he and the friend to whom he later sold it had the car support the current mileage (or lack thereof). The friend (owner #2) likewise just used it in track events, and it then made its way a year or two ago to FL. He tells me the car never sustained any crash damage while in his hands, other than a minor tap to the rear at Lime Rock, which only necessitated a new rear bumper cover. Currently the car looks great cosmetically, except that the fabric on the red Challenge seats is faded. Mechanically, the dealer says it had a recent 30K service, but for reasons I'm not at liberty to divulge in this public forum, I have reason to question this. So, bottom line (pun intended), what do you guys think it's worth, with or without a timing belt change? The salesman let me walk when we were about $7K apart. If you like, you can see photos on their web site: www.thenewautotoystore.com. THANKS in advance for your thoughts/feedback.
