Hi Gerald and Frank. I just took a look at mine at lunch after seeing this thread. I have a 1979 BB512 SN 28537 believed to be, but not confirmed, originally sold in Germany. It does not have a "Ferrari" plate on the door jam. Instead it has one from Trend Import Sales, Inc. who I believed were the people who originally federalized the car. Regards, Drew |

My car is at FOA. I will post the exact wording on the plate when I get her back home. |

Gerald, my 1982 BB512i car has a metal plate in the doorjam that notes it as a Belgium car with the cars gross weight in kg and other info. My car was originally delivered to Francorchamps in Belgium. So do you think it was put on by Ferrari, the Belgium importer, Francorchamps or by the conversion company in the USA ? |

The plate on the door jamb (as in the illustration below) was a USA requirement and therefore does not appear on European spec cars--and no Boxers were manufactured by Ferrari to meet USA specs. Some legalizers put their own plates there but Ferrari did not.

Dear Mr. Rousch: Thank You for your information. I have not studied the car up close. I just glanced at the car while looking at another vehicle. I believe it is the VIN plate on the door that is absent. I am not 100% sure. I can get back to the seller with more questions with the information you provided. |

Not sure what you mean by "body has no VIN plate." Exactly which plate are you referring to? Here are the identification details for a 512 BBi.

I know of a nice original owner 83 BBI that was imported from Belgium. The body has no VIN plate ? Is that an unfortunate problem ? Any other BBI's like that ?
