Got another question: The kit came with a 'license plate'. I assume in the racing car configuration, there was no license plate, correct?

It reads btw '69.N.52', whatever that means.

THANKS EVERYBODY!!!!

Just got a chance to look at the outcome of my seeds. And it grew overnight.
:-)

Seriously, I was lucky enough to get a 1/18 model of a Drogo and got some racing decals (the numbers) with it, but didn't know where to place them. As a matter of fact, I didn't know anything about these cars, but thanks to you I now do.

Wayne, you win as always:

"You're probably referring to either 2053 GT..."
http://www.barchetta.cc/Common/Images/Scans.Eventi/Schlegelmilch/XLarge/b_86.jpg

That is EXACTLY 'my' car. So I take it the '59' goes on either door and the front. But none on the roof?

When I'm done applying them, I'll post a picture of this model. It is unbelievably well built (not by me of course...).

Thanks again! What a great community.

Some additional Drogo info:

0147 E: 212 Inter Vignale Coupe rebodied as Spyder California. Per Cavallino No. 80 car was rebodied in 1965 by Drogo--also claimed to have been a Scaglietti rebody.

1219 GT: 250 GT PF Coupe that at one time had a berlinetta body that was alleged to have been built by Drogo but this has not been verified as far as I know.

2493 GT: 250 GTE 2+2 that received the Drogo bodywork from Testa Rossa 0716 TR when that car was restored to "original" configuration.

3213 GT: 250 GTE 2+2 alleged to be a Drogo Speciale when offered in 1997 by Philippe Olczyk.

3611 GT: 250 GTE 2+2 that received the Drogo bodywork from 2735 GT when that car was restored to "original" configuration.

There are also three cars that claim some connection to the Drogo bodywork that was once on 3445 GT: 1257 GT, "2423" GT and 4769 GT. 1257 and 4769 are almost certainly replicas (don't you love that, a replica of a rebody?). "2423" is a bit of a mystery. While it claims to have the Drogo bodywork ex-3445 its chassis number is unknown. It uses engine S/N 2423 GT and I have been told the chassis was restamped to match the engine number.

Finally, Wayne asked about 0726 and 0738. The South American history of these two cars is quite obscure and while both have been alleged to have had Drogo bodywork in the past this is not verified as far as I know, and both cars are now back to "original" configuration.

By the way, Andreas, if you're talking about a car that actually raced in the 1960s with its Drogo bodywork, that wouldn't be 3445 GT (Gerald's pics). You're probably referring to either 2053 GT...
http://www.barchetta.cc/Common/Images/Scans.Eventi/Schlegelmilch/XLarge/b_86.jpg

or 2735 GT...
http://www.barchetta.cc/Common/Images/Scans.Eventi/Schlegelmilch/XLarge/b_84.jpg

Either of those look like the car you're talking about?

Hugh Ruthven from the Finish Line in Barrington has a 250 Drogo bodied car. Drives the hell out of it....Colorado Grand etc. Last I talked to him at Oak Street show, he is totally restoring it.

Here you go, fellas. The Drogo rebodies are/were...

0716 TR: Originally a pontoon-fendered TR. Rebodied by Drogo in 1964 as a berlinetta (very GTO-ish). Since converted back to original pontoon-fendered configuration.

0977 GT: 250 PF Coupe rebodied by Drogo. Has made many appearances in various magazines. Not a comp car.

1717 GT: 250 PF Coupe rebodied by Drogo. Also not a comp car.

1965 GT/2445 GT: Two crashed cars, one Drogo body. You figure it out.

2053 GT: 250 GT SWB rebodied by Drogo circa 1962-63. Car since destroyed?

2065 GT: 250 PF Coupe rebodied once by Drogo and then later fitted with the Drogo body from 2209 GT.

2067 GT: 250 GT SWB supposedly once rebodied by Drogo with a body similar to 2209 GT and then later rebodied again to look like a GTO. In 1992, it was restored to its original SWB configuration.

2209 GT: 250 GT SWB rebodied by Drogo. Later restored to original SWB body and Drogo body placed on 2065 GT.

2433 GT: 250 GTE fitted with the Drogo body from 3445 GT in 1987. Not a comp car.

2735 GT: 250 GT SWB rebodied by Drogo following a crash in 1962. Later returned to original SWB configuration.

3405 GT: 250 GTE rebodied by Drogo circa 1979.

3445 GT: 250 GTO rebodied by Drogo in 1965. Wrecked in 1976 and subsequently returned to original GTO configuration. Drogo body fitted onto 2433 GT.

7979: The beast. We've been around this block more than a few times.

Also, there was a Drogo creation called the "Cegga Ferrari Spyder," which utilized a Ferrari engine but not built on a Ferrari chassis and the famous "Nembo" cars designed by Neri & Bonacini were subcontracted out to Drogo for the actual coachwork. And, of course, Drogo legitimately bodied several of the "P" series cars as well as the Dino 206 S coupes and spyders. Drogo also updated several 250 LMs to "long-nose" configuartion.

(There have also been claims that Drogo rebodied the following: 0726 TR, 0738 TR, 1257 GT, and 4769GT. As far as I know none of these were truly the work of Drogo, but Gerald might know otherwise.)

the "monstrosity" was 330 gt 2+2 s/n 7979, originally known as the "golden car" due to it's light gold paint. currently painted red and available for sale at heritage classics.

gerald,

how many drogo cars are there total?

gerald,

wasn't there also s/n 2735, the rob walker swb, that was bodied by drogo after kerrison bought the car? this is the car that was later was rebuilt by clive beecham back to the swb configuration leaving the body to be placed onto a gte chassis, thus making the "new" drogo s/n 3611gt.

In all there were five (5) 250 GT SWB Berlinettas that were rebodied by Drogo as pseudo-GTOs: 1965 GT, 2067 GT, 2209 GT, 2445 GT and 2819 GT (the Breadvan).

Andreas, we need more information to determine which car you are referring to.

This is S/N 3445 GT, a 250 GTO that was rebodied by Drogo's Carrozzeria Sportscars. Is this the car you had in mind?

What else would you like to know about the car?

There was a Ferrari racing in the sixties, that looked a lot like a GTO 250, but longer. It was called Drago or Drogo (not to be confused with the monstrosity at Heritage Classics in LA). Does anybody have some information and pictures of that car?
