the engineer i spoke to was german, as was his whole team that has been working on the car for the last 2-3 years. look at it this way, it will have italian style, flair and a handle, but it will be built as good as a merc (?). all i know is that for that kind of money it ought to be like a mclaren f1 on steroids..... |

Great car, does anybody else find it a little odd that Buggati used to be french (ok on the border with Italy)and is being presented to a German embassy, just think its a bit weird, why bring Buggati a famous french company back from the dead only present it now as German (yes I know VW bought it so they can do what they like guess I'm still not over Rolls Royce's being made in Germany and Assembled in England!) |

Hi Ross, Thanks for sharing with us. It is really unusual to see this car with 1001horse power!. I thought I was very lucky to be seated in the Pagani C12 and the Merc. Clk-GTR on last Sunday but Veyron is probably rarer. Cheers |

Very Interesting. I wonder how close to production that one was. Thanks for posting. |

the weather is great here lately, so after dinner i went out for a drive in the beast to give it some exercise before i leave for a week. just before i got to my garage, i passed through belgrave square and could not believe my eyes...in front of the german embassy a veyron was being manoeuvered around to be loaded onto a truck. so i pulled over for a better look and got to talking with the engineer babysitting it. the car had been brought from the factory in germany for a special presentation at the embassy. sorry i did not have my digi cam handy, so here is my attempt at an accurate description: ok, its pretty spectacular, but you would expect that from a car that will retail for $1.4 mil. it looks much better in person than in all the pictures i have seen of it. the front still leaves me a little cold, but the rear 3/4 view is great. very muscular looking. the engine is fully exposed, the headers and cam covers are open to the elements (which is really going to be a problem to clean for whoever the poor servants are that will have to do it !), and apparently there is no way to get at the engine without taking off the whole rear covering; in other words you are not going to be checking on things too easily by yourself. on either side of the engine are these great big chrome air intakes that peek above the roof of the car just behind the b pillar line- they actually look kind of cool. the rear spoiler is hydraulically actuated depending on speed (slide up at 100kph), and will actually sit up vertically to help braking. the rear vision looked exceptionally good. the rear end in general looked well sorted and thought out with good lights and a central exhaust, which kind of echoed the front trapezoidal grill opening. the interior was unbelievably sumptuous and jewel like. extremely well appointed with chrome bezeled dials and some really beautiful aircon/heat etc controls in the leather covered dash. i could not see a stereo but it could have been hidden. the gearshift lever was not sporting enough in my opinion, as it was too dainty, covered in leather and crested with a chrome surrounded badge. the exterior color was various shades of grey/silver/anthracite depending on what part of the car it was -so a 3 tone paint job if you will, and the interior was a wonderfully supple cream colored leather with alcantara inserts. the wheelbase was shorter than the 512, and with minimal overhang, for a pretty short package, but wide (still not quite as wide as the 512 in back). the engine didn't sound like much, but the engineer told me that they were only running a few of the cylinders for the parking lot movements (i don't know whether this is an option just for the show cars or what). unfortunately i did not get to do more than look and talk, but it still felt pretty special to spot such a rare piece of rolling art. after a few minutes a little crowd developed to check things out. the funny thing was that after a while, they began to migrate over to my car! only about 3 other people in the crowd besides myself had any idea what the veyron was, but the 512 is familiar to everybody i guess...... |
