Another vote for Gary Bobileff. Very honest and straight forward. If he's got the time, he'll spend as much time with you as you need and explain anything you have questions about.

As an aside, Gary's wife died about a year ago, suddenly. My wife and I are still in shock, she was a very nice person.

My experience with Symbolic is that they are not so fun to deal with unless you have some or all of the following stamped on your forehead:

"I like it when dealers give me lots of attitude and still play hide the ball."

"I believe that a Ferrari is not a complicated machine like other automobiles, but is instead a piece of black magic that I can never hope to understand. The acts of selling and servicing them can only be performed by Shaman"

and the most important:

"PS: I love to write big checks!"

stephen: Thought I sent this a few days ago. Yes that was my Daytona at Gary's, he had completed the first service in June. I picked it up in Philadelphia and drove it home, 3500 miles in four days.He flew out a week earlier to inspect it. I could not find anything with the car that did not match his report.
Yes, I know TS.

Thanks Nick, I'll have to go check them out. I'm a north county type and don't venture south of the merge too often (traffic). I'd like to hear of some other experiences with Symbolic, both good and bad. Maybe I was just a special case?

Mike, F. of San Diego is an authorized Ferrari dealership located in La Jolla. Their service department is located off Miramar road near the Pyramid.

After almost a 10 year absence, Ferrari decided to open a dealership in San Diego about a year ago.

Not impressed with Symbolic. Bought a 328 from them a year ago and as part of the purchase agreement they were to do the 30k service and of course PPI. Upon completion of the service and taking delivery of the car, I soon noticed they didn't even bother to replace the air filter; it was filthy. Also, the salesman failed to mention that this car had a history of front end damage. Funny this wasn't disclosed following the PPI. Lets see, what else..... The car alarm had a mind of it's own, had to remove that. The electric door locks were faulty, drivers side door latch misaligned which made closing the door a challenge, and within a week of owning this car the fuel pump relays went out, leaving me stranded waiting for the tow truck. Have since taken the car to Gary Bobileff and can't say enough good things about his service. He'll definately take time to explain every last detail, and he won't try to sell you something you don't need. His shop is always busy and he enjoys a solid reputation. By the way, where is "Ferrari of San Diego?" Never heard of it!

Malcom,
Did you take delivery of your Daytona around last Fathers day? I was down in San Diego picking up my 308 when Gary was getting ready to hand over a beautiful Yellow Daytona. His wife mentioned he had flown out to the east coast to inspect and bring the car back. Was this yours?
Regards.

ps: Are you familiar with Tucker Sadler in SD?

I recommend Gary Bobileff. He is one of the best independants in the San Diego area, and really has expert knowledge on Ferrari 12's. Dan, is this NERO 550?
Best of Luck!

I've seen PPI's that Bobileff has done, they're very comprehensive. If I were buying a car there, that's where I'd go. I also agree w/ you on limiting the conflict of interest that would arise if the seller did the PPI.

I am not sure I understand the bias concern. If I was buying a Ferrari my comfort level would be much higher with an assessment coming from a Ferrari dealership rather than an independent.

I am very familar with Ferrari of San Diego. Their work is top notch.

Bobileff Motors has a '79 308 GTB posted on their website. 36k miles, records, etc. From the excellent pictures on the website it looks to be in great condition. Has anyone had experience with this car or seen it in person?

Gary Bobileff of Bobileff Motorcars(LaJolla) did the PPI on my former TR. Honest and accurate. He also did my major service. Excellent work and fairly priced.
Hope this helps.

99 Maranello, just had the 30k done at FoSD, so having them do a PPI might be a bit biased. Anyone know of an independant or something of the like?

Thanks,

--Dan
