Will Smith was just on Leno. THey showed a clip of the 550/575 chase scene.

WOW!

The sound is incredible...easily the best movie representation of the Ferrari sound I have heard, bar none. The roar of the V12 is wonderful.

I haven't seen the script, but I suspect that Demi has more lines, but the Enzo's are more profound.

Likely all the Enzo gets to say is "vroom". It's all in the delivery.

I loved the hidden... The 308 scene was the best... looks like the engine was out at the very end... it's sitting too high while it is burning... guess they did not want to trash a multi K engine.
BTW.. I wore out a VHS copy long ago.. hehehe

Bad boys made me want a 3.6 turbo Porsche.

Could a 575M be somewhere in my future?

Bruckheimer drives/drove a 550. I have heard that they used both a 550 and a 575 in the movie. Most viewers would never know the difference anyway.

I don't know how "realistic" I'd call a flick where a silicon-based alien is obsessed with human females. (Maybe a literacy problem in Hollyweird -- they thought the script said "silicone-based".) naughty But it does set up that neat (but brief) scene after the alien becomes a woman.

A really bad guy with good taste ("he likes Ferraris"). The good alien, on the other hand, drove a 928. No chase scenes between the two, though.

Andreas, you got that right! This bad boy really stays bad to the end!

Not to give anything away Stephen you'll see a black 308 GTSI and a red Mondial cab in this movie. Like Andreas says the first 3-5 minutes of the movie will have you sweating...

Does anyone know if it's on DVD?

Stephen, he is not obsessed with Ferraris, but being a bad beast. Lawrence got it right.

The thing I think is so cool about the Hidden is, that it is somewhat realistic: I always hate it, when the really bad guys turn nice and start playing by the rules. If you make the terrible decision to ignore everything don't give about your or others life, then at least stick with it. That's what's so cool about this one. In the Hidden the bad guy is just bad. No nonsense. That's how he drives his Ferrari, which also (different than in other movies) deteriorates each time it hits something or somebody.

It is all gruesome, but in its own way realistic.

The Rock:

Loved that movie- A toxicologist with a Ferrari (just like me, except mine is a lowly GT4 and not a 360). However, his job in the movie seemed a little more exciting than mine. I never get to defuse sarin bombs...

Andreas,
Is that the horror/scifi flick that has a cloning alien that is obsessed with Ferrari's? He runs around hijacking F cars here and there? I remember seeing that one night but couldn't remember the title. There were some pretty cool car scenes if I recall.

DES,
The front spoiler/lower clip are quite different from the 550 to 575. The 550 has a more aggresive corner splitter design with tapered brake duct openings. The 575 has a more symetrical spoiler with oval shaped brake openings. The hood scoop on the 575 is also larger.
Scott,
I love that chase seen down Sunset Blvd! Great sound of the two cars whipping thru traffic. You guys in LALA land have it all...
Glad to see that WS is now driving a Ferrari. The old Turbo 3.6 was a nice ride though.

Ferraris on the big and small screen, always a favourite topic.

So here I say it again, my all time favourite scene:

Opening three minutes of "The Hidden".

Everybody who doesn't know it, go find that movie, put it in, set your speakers on max volume and drool.

Others might be thinking of Magnum while driving their 308, I'm always thinking of the Hidden. Bad, bad boy. Bad to the bone. Check it out!

Miami Vice sure is a classic, but it's also responsible for me having photos of embarrasment in pastel clothes. By the way, only true way to tell the "fake" Daytona is that the space from the back of the front tire to the front of the door is 8" longer on the kit (for the Corvette engine).

that 'vice scene... i agree ... kit car or not... fabulous shots.. the night lights reflected in the (copied) Pininfarina coachwork to the tune of "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins... i have it in a small quicktime format.. i play this alot in the top corner of my screen... i think its too big to post here... even after i stuffed it, it was 28megs if anyone REALLY wants it and has any ideas let me know...

here are some stills:

Upload

by the way... that kit car would've past by un-noticed sooo much easier if it werent for those RECTANGULAR headlites... maybe it was legal issue... so much attention to detail and they had to use those things... ):

a minor issue with a fabulous show... i still watch my taped ones...

Ooh Ahhh! the Ferrari Mondial scene with Al Pacino was great. I'm happy to see that Ferrari has the see through 360 engine bay and not see a Fiero engine. With the many fly by night Kit car shops, they order one kit from a shop then next day, they use it to copy their own molds for sale.
It's good that Ferrari is one of the few manufacturers to pursue the matter, but remember, "Imitation is the best form of flattery."

The 355 in the Rock was indeed a kit. There was an outfit in Mexico (just across the border from San Diego) making them. When Ferrari found out, they took them to court and got a judgement against them.

Ferrari sent some lawyers to the warehouse in Mexico to verify that the moulds had indeed been destroyed. When the lawyers got to the location, they were told that the destroyed moulds were in the back. As they were walking towards the back, several unsavoury characters appeared and blocked their way. The lawyers said "uhh, we believe you, we don't need to actually see the stuff...," turned around and high-tailed it outta there.

3 months later a new fibreglass 355 body was delivered to a buyer in England. It's stored outside, leaning sideways against a garage. Unless you are 2 feet away, you could swear it's a 355.

Anyone interested in hearing about Porsche's trials and tribulations with 550 spyder replicas in New Zealand?

I've always liked the race between the 911 and the 308 in "Against All Odds" , decent movie too. My favorite is in the "Gumball Rally" , where the Cobra & Daytona race in the LA aquaducts.
As for Miami Vice, I think Ferrari gave them a black TR, but it didn't show up in the night shots so they had it painted white(Or Ferrari gave them a white one). The stunt TR was based off of a Pantera chassis. There was a good article on the cars in an old issue of Popular Mechanics.

GT, I've heard that there is significant use of CGI in Bad Boys II. I think most of where they're tossing cars down at the Ferrari from the car carrier was. Also, I believe there's a shot that involves Martin Lawrence accidentally firing a shot into the dashboard. There was also something about one of the cars, like it was Will Smiths or the directors personal car...I forget what it is right now though.

The crash scene of the 355 was a kit. The white TR was won by a female who had the matching key drawn. Don Johnson at the time of Miami Vice filming actually had a Porsche 959.

What I liked about the rock scene is that it is actually fair the way they did it. They threw all types of crap at the h1 that it could go through and the ferrari had to go around so it was cool that is wasn't fake looking like the h1 being infront on pure speed. To have a scene with a car that goes 83mph top speed and one that does 180+ that was good work. The fact the car was yellow doesn't hurt.

I could be wrong but was told that the 355 in 'The Rock' was a kit. The way the front hood just popped up during the crash was unrealistic.

The Daytona in Miami Vice is actually a Corvette. Enzo was unhappy about it and gave them the free white Testarossa. This TR was given away at a charity drawing. As for movies, I really loved the 355 and H1 chase scene in the Rock with Nick Cage and Sean Connery.

right-o Mr. Huang...

or considering the outrageous car stunts i wouldnt be suprised if its computer generated and used a variety of shots of both cars... remember the Mustang in Gone in 60 Seconds?...

only i hope its done better than THAT... personally it looked REALLY fake in that bridge-jump...

I just hope the same model is used for the live action non-stunt scenes... for us Ferrari-fanatics it will be a little annoying if they continuously jump back and forth between them...

...or theres something else... the headlights in the centre photo are 575...

they cobbled something together... probably some damage was caused to the front fascia of a 575 and they quickly repaired it with a 550 part...

guess i'll have to see the movie and find out for sure... (:

They seemed to have used both..
The 550 for the majority of the chase scenes - see bottom 2 screenshots - the enlarged lower lip on front fascia is the giveaway

Upload

however in the top detail shot its a 575 - the wheels are distinctly the newer model. Probably done by the second unit - pick-up/filler shots where the stars arent needed. Either it was a mistake or they didnt care...

Hollywood...

Okay this isn't a new movie, but I was cleaning out my basement and came accross it. The Miami Vice movie from 1984. Yes, I also know it isn't a real daytona, but for about 8 min you see them speeding a long at night in the daytona with 80's music in the background. I am telling you the car just looks awesome.

Dumb and Dumberer (NOT recomended) has a nice scene at the end of 2 women in a 308 GTS trying to pickup the 'heroes';

also noticied for the first time a very brief glimpse of a parked 308 in the old Steve Martin movie 'Roxanne'.
