Chris,
You mentioned about maybe making the f348 airbox out of carbon Fiber. I took some measurments of temperatures over a long period yesterday in my F348. The temperature was between 50 and 55 degress C which was the highest next to the Exhaust Heat shield. I hope this helps. The surface temperature of the air box was highest at 50 degress C. The outside temperature at the time was 25 degress C.

Changed to exactly the same plastic covered part I imagine. I'm not sure if you'll notice, but I think you'll be happy with the way these paddles feel as they transmit certain vibrations to your fingers.

Also, Steven, for those who so desire, we can lengthen the tips of the up and/or down paddles for enhanced shifting in turns.

The stock paddles are coated with CRAPPY PLASTIC MATERIAL. Anybody who has used their 360 for any significant amount of time will see them deteriorate greatly, and they look like hell. All the 360s I have seen with decent mileage have this problem, and most have been changed under warranty at least once. The 575 has aluminum paddles, which correct the problem somewhat, but they would be much too hot to touch in the sun. The CF paddles solve this problem.

Steven,

To each their own. I sort of agree with you, I'm the type of guy who purchases things for cars if there is a real usable benefit.

This was addressed earlier in the thread, and I think it can be summed up as the bling bling factor.

Cheers

Not to kill the party, but what's the point of carbon fiber shifter paddles? You can hardly see them as it is, you never look at them while driving, and I have never heard of a stock paddle breaking, so the extra strength of carbon fiber is hardly necesary from an enginering standpoint. I bang my paddles pretty hard in the 360 Challenge, and have no problems with their structural integrity. Is there some non-cosmetic, structural information about these paddles that I am unaware of?

I happen to like the look of carbon fibre items, but if I am going to replace any parts for looks alone I'd like to actually see them. Just my 2 cents.

Our paddle shifter is what it is, and the only way we'll change it is to make it better.

My pics (on the other thread) are the real thing, not samples - s/n 001.

I'll be as open as possible about the materials and processes used to make any of our parts, to the point where proprietary information/techniques might be compromised.

JRV, I came up with the price of $600 per pair based on covering costs (largely tooling) and profit, keeping in ming that I wanted these parts to cost less than others I've heard mentioned ($700-$800 range). I am not saying I'm going to get into a price battle, or change the price, but what do you think the market needs (pricewise) to be interested?

Thanks for all the input, you guys.

>>I have to say that I'm not a big fan of price wars ( that does not include mass production items ), especially when quality is at stake.
<<

Perfectly understandable, and I agree quality shouldn't be compromised, in fact quality is what I sell in my business.

I'm presuming in this case the quality is what it is, as they both have showed photos of the parts. Of course if those are just sample photos and the price will determine the quality of parts not made yet, then true, a price war wouldn't be a good thing, unless of course the quality was maintained and the costs of manufacturing and overhead was lowered and the profit margin trimmed. Having been around a little, I'm up to speed on how expensive the first few parts are to produce and the desire to recoup expences as quickly as possible. The flip side of the game is the desire/*need to move product in sufficient volume to create a market, and that's done by trimming some fat off the price or creating considerable *need (real or imagined).

Agree that's an interesting statement you found and it would be nice to get some clarification on ingredients so valid comparisons can be made by those of us that desire to do our DD.

hmm, in all fairness I have to mention that I also own a carbon fiber manufacturing business .

I have to say that I'm not a big fan of price wars ( that does not include mass production items ), especially when quality is at stake.

That may not be very relevant with pedal shifters, but it can be a big difference with other parts.

Steve's parts look very nice, I was just wondering about this statement :

" Because of the use of a new type material which is equivalent to the dry
carbon, you would be completely satisfied with its strength as well as
its touch."

I may missunderstand this sentence, but to me it means that those shifters are not carbon...?

Steve, I don't in any way say that your products are not superior,I just don't exactly understand this sentence. It would be not too cool though, if those shifters would not be real carbon or in equal quality to Valence's ones, but advertised as pure carbon...;o)
just my 200 lira

Yes Chris.

That's cool that you're doing that. Again, I have no experience with these things in particular but I was just voicing another opinion which made sense.

Hmmm. This is interesting. I do not want a price war. The products we both sell are great quality etc. It is totally down to the individual who any one buys from.
PS: I am about to become a sponsor of the site. I also have full product support on all Items. www.myownferrari.com

Taek-ho, are you referring to the opinion of many drivers that the tips are too short for shifting in a corner? We're offering longer tips as an option (no cost) for those who want it. Some people want the stock length, and those were the first ones finished.

Seriously though...Someone had mentioned in a previous thread about the useability of the stock paddles. I don't own a car that uses these so I don't really have any feedback... A little market research goes a looong way. :-)

Chris,

I can understand your reply and that certian things are priced to what the market will bare. A good example is Al Burtonis $6K Diablo sport exhaust that consists of 4 $20 dollar glass packs welded to some cheap mandrel bent pipes with some equally cheap bling bling chrome tips...

He has buyers at retail too...so alot can be said for marketing and clueless rich buyers...however I'm niether..;-)

The 355 paddles do not fit the 360, and vice versa. The paddles shown on the photos are for the 355.

If it comes down to price, he wins. If it comes down to quality, reputation, and a U.S. manufacturer who will stand by this and all of their other products now and in the future, not to mention a strong commitment to ferrarichat, then I'd say the safe money's on Valence.

Steve, you say "formula one grade carbon fibre." What exactly does this mean? Do you or your company make these parts?

Are these the paddles I've seen on eBay that are made in Japan?

We will be introducing the 355 shift paddles soon, too. They will be priced competetively and are different from our 360 paddles (see other post).

Steve, it looks like you have some nice parts here. However, just as a note of consideration, some of the other people who advertise their parts here for sale are paid sponsors of the site.

Just FYI.
