I agree with Tony the posts here are much better, the ones on the foc uk are very few and there is is never a sense of humour added, the site is moderated (policed if you want)and I have been told a few times that posts criticising the club have "gone missing"I have certainly thought about asking them to open the forum but am sure that I know the answer to that one!!

Is the answer to make this site subscription only? The Ferrari Owners' Club website in the U.K. is free to browse but also has a separate members area which has to be paid for, where posts are made.
Having said that, the posts on the U.K. site are nowhere near as entertaining as the ones here!

Faisal,

Very well said.

But, I do believe that if somebody starts an inane thread, that Rob should promptly yank it from the board.

I am guilty of one myself.

Jeff,

Also I do not feel that you nor Fasial did anything wrong. It's jerks like Tony that we need to stand against. We all fight like a family but when someone comes into the mix to ruin it for all, we need to stand together. I did not make him lie or make him post crap. I ignored but he just more annoying. We agree and disagree. Let's move on.

DOn.. I am not at war with anyone here. I respect your views but disagree with your actions. You feel that this board is some sort of sacred place.. thats cool. But don't expect everyone to come here to pray. You don't approve of my use of X? Heck.. you sure would not like my choices in movies or music. I ahve already admitted that Tony is a jerk. But the world is full of jerks and egotistic Ferrari owners too. You feel that Tony and even I have "violated" this "special" board. Please relax. As Fisal said... I think a few here need to just go drive their cars and stop taking it so seriously. Let me know if you are down this way.. I will take you to the keys and force some sunshine and sport fishing on you. Get you the Buffett mindset. Then Tony nor anyone else will ever bother you again.

Don,
I am a relative new-comer, but I don't quite see things your way. It was a nice neighborhood here a while ago, when I joined. Then Tony came on and made some inane but amusing posts. These quickly became increasingly annoying posts. So I ignored them. You didn't.

Your responses were at first somewhat witty. They they became increasingly hostile and annoying. You made it your mission to prove he was lying, as if that would somehow prove your worth. Why was that so important to you?

Now what you're doing is even worse. I do not believe in censorship. If you don't care for someone's posts, ignore them. 260 posts out of the thousands on here is a very, very small percentage. We don't need your warning lights to tell us to ignore someone. You need them. Your assclown cartoon was funny -- twice.

To be honest, I dislike schoolyard bullies even more than stupid/annoying people. You have become a schoolyard bully. YOU need to stop.

Your opinion that Jeff is part of the problem is not shared by me. Is this board for your personal use only? If so, I will be happy to leave. If not, then realize that others don't share your opinion.

You say that you have been "Helping Rob establish f-chat, providing support for the challenge team, Becoming a board member for the FCA, Taking guys on there first Ferrari riding and helping Fellow f-chatter in a downpour to get there car started."

Well, it's nice that you help out in Ferrari circles and I commend you for it. It is not, however, a criteria for being a board member. So I don't really care to hear about it. What do you want, a medal? I daresay some people have made even more significant contributions than you have. But they're not on here, beating their drum.

Look at Wmhart's example. Tony took a pretty vicious swipe at him. Did he respond like you? No. Is he going on about it? No. Is he asking for Tony to be banned? No. Even though he thinks it's trash talk, he's not taking it anywhere near as seriously as you did.

You keep asking other people to ignore Tony. But you can't seem to do so yourself. Just ignore him, for f*ck's sake. Is that really so hard? That means DO NOT participate in any topic started by him. Not even with your sirens. It's easy and it's what I and 90% of the other people on this board did.

I think you should let other people decide for themselves whether they want to respond or not, just like you did for a very, very long and tedious time. And realize that not everyone shares your view.

You seem to take all this very seriously and very personally. Go drive instead.

One thing that free speech advocates often seem to disregard is the fact that while you may have the right to say something, that does not mean that it is an appropriate or responsible thing to say. I don't like having to follow anybody's edicts about what is or is not appropriate, but assume that with maturity, comes a certain perspective on what's valued and what's not. Disagreement, or articulated argument is not the same as trash talk, and the first amendment doesn't make it any more sensible.

No.. "rolling" is using Exstacy. We enjoy it from time to time. None of the bad after effects of drink ( no hangover or loss of awareness.) It makes you feel very laid back and has lead to some great conversations with friends. You should only drink water ( no alcohol.. very stupid) and don't expect to get "high". It really lets you relax without acting like a stoner. Effects last about 4 hours

Jeff,

Do you not see what is going on? You have only been here since May so you might not be familiar of how the site was without Tony, michael around but he's intentions are not to swap boring stories or talk about cars. It's to cause trouble. If you cannot not see that or want to take a stand against it. Then you are a part of the problem, not a part of the solution. I have been for a long time, Helping Rob establish f-chat, providing support for the challenge team, Becoming a board member for the FCA, Taking guys on there first Ferrari riding and helping Fellow f-chatter in a downpour to get there car started. So before you point your finger at me, you better decide what is important, A chat site where ferrari lovers can share stories, boring or not, or to allow a troublemaker to ruin in one month what it has taken years to build.

PeterS,

Quite right.

Whilst to administer control over everything is certainly unacceptable dictatorship, to have no control at all will result in equally hopeless anarchy and the breakdown of the minimum requisite order in the community concerned.

The trick is to find the right balance, giving everybody the maximum tolerance as far as social civility and compassionate understanding could allow.

But when that point is exceeded, someone has to call the tune, somehow.

WOW! This is getting as heated as 'Tell me about driving around at high RPM'..Rodney King should come on this board to tell to all get along! I agree with Nick's line of thought. I feel that threads such as Tony's should be pulled off the board. Such verbal matches between the true FChat enthusiast and a few knuckleheads degrade the value of this forum and may cause others not to join. Do we want future posts to read like this: "Hi, I am new to FChat and just bought my first ferrari, an '80 308. This looks like a place I should be active with, but do you guys always beat each other up"....I think not!

Using freedom of speech as the universal excuse to justify abuses of all kinds is sheer hypocrisy.

Despite the freedom of speech, somehow we all have to come to our own eventual judgment as to who is more of a jerk and who is not.

GET REAL !!

Actually, I don't own a Ferrari. And I wasn't making fun of you because you own a Mondial or the Mondial itself, I actually like them. Hell, I like the GT4. I just think your comments are funny considering they describe half your posts.

Gee Erich... Which Ferrari do you own? And Are you saying that the Mondial was not built at the factory? As I have said in the past the Mondy is not my first nor my last Ferrari.. but it is my favorite. Your rude little swipe proves my statement. What makes you any less a jerk than Tony? Sometimes it is too easy. And as for Arlie.. he has been lampooned many times here for his posts. So what exactly is your point?

Jeffrey: Yea, it is just like a cigar bar. There's even this one guy who's convinced his overweight 2+2 Mondial is special because, get this, he thinks it was built at the same place and by the same people who built Ferrari's F-1 cars. I'd comment on the rest of your dribble, but just the fact that actually think Arlie is the same as Alpert/Roberts/Ziggie shows what a putz you are.

Don.. my point is not to defend him. I agree that he and Arlie can be total Jerks. But as much as they are problems what makes it more acceptible for a well liked poster to be just as rude( using pictures and terms like "assclown")? I consider someone that does that to be just as bad. I also think that your relentless attacks on some here are just as much a waste of space.. so we must balance it all out. If some can be rude then we must allow all to post freely. This is not the golf club where you can decide if someone is good enough to join. IF Rob wants to make this a restricted site then thats a different matter.
I have found that many of the posters here are just typical middle aged Ferrari owners that treat the chat like a Cigar Bar. They come to swap boring stories and tell us all about their trip to the factory or how they had lunch with the president of FNA. Thats fine but I could really care less. Are they nice guys... I guess so.. but I am sure that they would bore the hell out of me at a party. As an example... the "accident" that occured brought up a conversation tonight for some of my friends... I can not even post what we discussed because I would be attacked by you and others for having an opinion.

JRV... No comments being wispered here... I am very open about my thoughts. I have read many posts from you and find you to be typical. You like to think that your knowlege and the help you dish out makes you somehow integral to members here... yet you also could not wait to clone this site. Having a repair shop makes you a wrench not Enzo's lost son. And, Sport, no issues here...I have been around wrenches all my life that thought they knew it all... it just gets old. Your level of ego is nothing compared to a Mercedes Master Tech I worked with in my 20's. If you are having trouble understandng my comments then you need to read them slower..

NIck.. hate to break it to you.. I am a member of perhaps two dozen online boards. Topics from automotives to social activities and NONE have "police" other than the sys opp. IT is usually up to the operator to delete posts and only if TOS is violated. AS for the Jewish ferrari thread... big deal. I am Scottish and my wife Is Italian. Racial jokes don't offend us. I learned years ago that "bad" taste is subjective. My education allows me to see the humor past the label. Do Jews, Blacks, Italians,Polish, Germansand just about every other group tend to get stupid about labels.. yeppers. I would still rather have a fun loving group that can take a joke than be with a bunch of bleeding hearts that worry about the hurt feelings of a few minority members. Dd I tell you the one about the Jew the Spick and Wop that went into the Ferrari dealership?.. oops.. sorry.. can't tell you that one...might offend you.

Jeffrey, it is not difficult to find examples of threads that should be deleted. The Jewish Ferrari thread has no purpose other than to insult Jewish people. It may be the poster did not realize its offensive nature and a quick delete would have ended the matter. Certainly the board would be better of without thread.

There are other examples where the topic generates to issues that have nothing to do with Ferrari or cars. THIS IS A FERRARI CHAT SITE. We talk and share information about Ferrari's.

Most specific subject boards have moderators/deputies whose sole function is to keep the thread on topic and civil. I am surprised you are not aware of this.

ROFL.. Nick... May I ask where you have been since the advent of the internet? IT's the Wild West and Paris in the 20's all rolled into one. Any Free( and I stress that word) board that tired to censor it's members for anything other than harassment or threats would not last very long. Let's see you say " to keep the board informative, interesting and enjoyable"... I ask who are you to decide what I find interesting and enjoyable? I don't mind rude posts. They shake things up and often slam the "holier than thou" crowd. Guys like Tony and Arlie don't bother me. I am much more put off by people like JRV and DON that THINK just because they have some small knowlege they have the right to judge others. We all don't have to like each other or even get along.... I, for one, don't need the approval of members of some internet board to enjoy my Ferrari. Are some here really nice people? I am sure they are and that I could have a drink and swap stories with them for fun. But I am also sure that just as many would bore the hell out of me.

on the internet. However specific interest chat board are very vulnerable to posters who have no interest in the board subject other than to inflame and be offensive to the other participants.

I feel it is necessary to have deputies who monitor the board and have the authority to delete messages they judge way off topic and/or generally offensive to the board.

It is a small price to pay to keep this board informative, interesting and enjoyable for every Ferrari enthusiast.

BTW if in fact we have deputies, based on the content of some of the recent posts they must be on vacation.
