Neal, what caused the oil pressure loss? Any signs before it happened? Was there an "unintended user stimulation" (ahem) that provoked it?

Just trying to be aware of how things happen. Thanks

i have a 348 spider and its a dream but bad things happen and cost crazy $ like when motor lost oil pressure and blew a head-$15000- after only few months ownership! your nissan is worlds less expensive to maintain but the ferrari risk is worth it to me. just be realistic about cost of ownership

hi!!adrian..i see by your profile that you already know what it feels like to be an owner of this brand.thank you very much for your reply and info.more or less , thats what i imagined.but anyway, i prefer knowing the actual truth, instead of future suprises.ive never owned one, but ive driven the 348ts, the 355gts, 355f1, and a lotus esprit turbo v8.i own this nissan 300zx tt, which is the american version, 300hp. 0-60 in 5.5s. and 280km/h. without the limiter.theres not much difference from the 348, but thats why ferrari is ferrari.its completely another world!!..just sit in it and turn the ignition and rev the motor up a bit and youve had enough.thats it. you end up selling whatever car you own to buy one of the cavallinos.as its a bit difficult for me to get all the amount of money at once, ive also had the thought of buying an accidented 348.only body damaged.ive found a few in germany, round 18.000 and 25.000euros, which is quite a reasonable price.i think. so i could put the money towards it in several periods of time.germany is the best country in europe to buy a ferrari, you can often get wrecked ones with the motor in perfect condition.but some are really bad.anyway, seeing your experience with ferrari, i dont think that i can be much help for you in information, but if theres anything in what i could help, please fell free to do it.it was really nice to hear from you.best regards, julio from mallorca.

Hi Julio, welcome. First, there have been tons of information discussed about the 348. Go to the bottom of the page, click "search" and type "348". You will find all sorts of info.

Most owners seem to report good reliability, especially after 1991. The electronics were upgraded to the Motronics 2.7. Clutches were also changed at some point to single plate types. Martin (Cavallino Motors or www.4Ferrari.com) is a sponsor and owned a couple for years. He swears by the car. Also Vincent 348 has a lovely one. I looked for one but did not come across a mint version. I did see a 348 Spider and may seriously consider that.

My understanding is that most Ferrari parts are expensive. So the best way to buy one is to get the best you can, pay more for one that is near perfect rather than trying to get a cheap one and hope to fix it cheaply. The good news is that 348s are not the most popular cars and have come down in price very substantially.

The key points to note:
1) Cars with higher mileage are worth considering as long as everything checks out. Often, cars that are not driven are more problematic.
2) Service history is helpful as it can indicate how well the car has been maintained.
3) The major service requires the engine to be removed from the car. Belts, water pump and tensioners are usually replaced at this time. If the car has not had this done, I recommend deducting the price of the service and getting it done yourself. This guarantees you get it done right.

Other than that, it seems the car is really quite relaible and wonderful. I love the car.
Good luck.

right..can anybody help me with some doubts i have with a 348?.actually i have a nissan 300zx twinturbo.now its for sale cause the car ive really dreamt of is the 348, i dont care which model or which year.i would just like to know a few things about it.first of all i live in mallorca spain, first problem, we have no dealers...so id have to relay on imports.the thing is that the ferrari motor has less electronics than mine, easier accesibility than mine, its atmospheric, mines twinturbo, everithing is twin.so mine should be more delicate in terms.so what should i worry about this car?..are the spares so expensive?...is the clutch so delicate and extremely expensive as ive heard?...are dameaged body parts really expensive?...etc...these things really bother me because i am not what you call rich, i have to work to make the money to pay monthly bank loan, etc...so is it really worth it?i would really apreciate anyone with personal wxperience on this car to post me back .best regards to all owners and enthusiasts!ciao!...
