I believe this car is S/N 47649 and if so it is the 5th prototype of the 288 GTO.

Also, I believe this car is covered in Marcel Massini's GTO registry published in Ferrarissima #20 (1994), though I don't have a copy. Anybody else have one?

Hmmm, I would want a very detailed confirmation from Ferrari or something like that before I bought this car. It could be, and looks like, something very special ... but it may not be as it seems.

Whatever it is it looks very well glued together :-)

I have it from a reliable source that this car is the real deal.

I did buy a picture at a Maranello gift shop of a yellow 288 being built. I had it framed with a share certificate of FIAT I bought for a friend that really loved the car.

I've seen that extra detail on the engine lid before. Some have it, some don't. Not sure what the deal is with it. The engine lid has soo many slots cut into it for cooling, I can't imagine what that box is for. Additional cooling that keeps water out?

Anyway, I don't believe that's a sign of a fake 288. Maybe it was a Euro thing?

LOL Michael :-)
... And we have some careful friends here. I checked the pictures once more and yeah, we have an extra detail on the hood in the middle neighbouring the back window?

I compared the car to some close up pics that i have of 288 gto's and in the engine compartment I notice that the intercoolers where they contact the chasis for support with screws the chassis is rectangular looking and the yellow car is round tube like in a testarossa. Also the red wire that goes all around the engine in the yellow car is unique because no other 288got has that ugly out of place red wire hanging around, but everything else looks like a 288gto, maybe it is real that it was a prototype but I dont think it was the first one ever build unless the factory provides prove of it.

If test drivers are the only ones to rack up the 9616kms then you have to believe that they are 9616 hard kms.

This car was at that Monza Ferrari festival (or whatever it was called). Someone posted pictures a few months back and I recall seeing it. It really stood out seeing as it was YELLOW (or an original Red on that was repainted).

Either way, I remember seeing pictures of it a few months back.

EDIT, HOLD ON A SECOND.

The door sils are not correct. Look at the pull handle for the door. That's not what a 288 GTO looks like. On a production GTO, the pull handle stands alone, and the "pocket" has a door over it.

Izel,
I'll start the bidding at $2.00. OOPS thought I was on ebay again. My mistake.

I don't believe it. Probably a hoax to get the price up. But the customer can check with the vin.

Nice collection in the background. I see a F512m, 456 gt and a 355 :-)

Sweet. I've never seen a picture of a yellow 288. At least not of a real one. Although red seems like the only appropriate color for that Ferrari.

unique, interesting and very beautiful.
so we can say 272+1 288 GTOs produced. I wonder for how much it will go.
