Smiles,

In the Evo magazine road test of the Stradale (superb article btw, a must read and much better than the Car magazine test) they use the following adjectives in describing the sounds through the rev range: fearsomely loud, much louder, the exhaust blares with unexpected volume, the noise is just plain shocking, a whole heap more angry sounding, ear-splittingly loud, and stupefyingly loud.

So it's loud then.

I for one hope it is not changed A BIT on the production model. I would be simply ecstatic with it. And it looks stunning in Argento/red leather w/stripe and red calipers. My choice, for sure.

"The F355 still sounds higher pitched to me, for reasons I don't understand."

The F355 has a single velocity stack-like air intake tract 14.2" long (stack opening to backside of valve). The single trumpet (velocity stack) has a pure note.

The F360 has two inlet tracts, one tuned for high RPM torque extension, the other tuned for mid-range boost. The two trumpets have two pure notes superimposed on top of each other. The lengths chosen are based on those RPMs Ferrari wanted the volumetric efficiency boost, not based on music (e.g. major 5th).

So the F360 has a lower 'note' superimposed on a just-as-hith 'note' (that the F355 does not have.) So you ear hears the lower note as fundamental; ergo, the F3650 has a lower pitched sound.

Manu- it sounds like a race car. OPEN exhaust, ear-bleeding loud.

The F355 still sounds higher pitched to me, for reasons I don't understand.

If anything the Stradale sounds a little lower in pitch than even the 360 (which is in turn a bit lower than the F355.)

There is NO COMPARISON once that valve opens, the car is draw-crowds and make-small-children-cry LOUD. Would sound cool echoing all through the hills at Sears Point, but I don't know how long I'd want to be in there for.

Stradale seems to use larger tubing, maybe that is the reason?

PS: for drive to beach, as long as it's under 5grand, you can barely hear the car. And when you want to wring it out, and scare the out of your neighbours, well, that's there too :-)

gian,
most of the sound is coming from the rear bulkhead. the windows might keep out some wind noise, but compared to the engine noise, that is completely insignificant. go for the lexan windows unless your MOT will pose a problem.

keep a set of headphones handy, preferably a noise-cancelling set, and you will be fine. you might even enjoy the radio on longer drives!
rgds,
Faisal.

Why do they put a radio on this car??? who will hear it. From what I heard in the video I believe this loudness is going to be a problem.I love the sound of the exost expecially after 4000 rpm but that might be cool for the first 2000 miles after that it might get annoying ,especially when the cabin is not insoudarisated ( I hope it is a word in english)you might not talk to your wife in a trip to the beach...plus I believe the sound does not go with a 425 hp car, this is a sound of a 1000 hp dragster!!!.. I have mine delived in september and I might not get the Lexan windows since they are not yet omologated even in Europe, but after hearing the car I might prefer the normal windows..they resist sound alittle better.

There's no such thing as a Ferrari that is too loud ! :-) , please dont start complaining about it , this is the best sounding stock Ferrari for the last 30 years ! Get earplugs ! :-)
I still have to hear the Enzo at 8000 Rpm though ..But the Stradale sounds better than an F40 for sure and better than a stock F50 !

Would be interested to hear what you guys thought about the "note" - as opposed to the volume...
Did you think the 360's "note" has a pleasing quality to it (like say the F355)....? Is it too harsh - is the Tubi howl more/less satisfying... ?
Your feedback would be much appreciated....

IMO - Ferrari will NOT deliver cars with this exhaust system... I love it but most people will only complain about it.

Faisal- amazing wasn't it? I loved how the car just *shook* the entire concours.

The sound in that video is accurate.

Looking at the exhaust, I belive that the bypass section that is opened around 5grand is actually a straight bypass. Yep, Ferrari did it, they snuck a friggin STRAIGHT PIPES exhaust all of about 3 feet long onto a STREET CAR!!! HOLEY HELL!

It was louder than the shorty-headered alcahol blown dragster that was fired up at the same show. (I will let that sink in...)

The car has surprised me, I'm amazed how quiet it is at idle. Such a CUTE tiny little 'muffler' on her! :-)

THIS IS NOT A CAR FOR WIMPS! It will be TOO LOUD for many I suspect.

Best!
Ben.

Wow! And it sounds to me like it was being short shifted (I'd guess about 6500 rpm, based on the sounds my Modena makes). Maybe not... but I have to wonder what it might sound like at full song! :-)

I also have to believe that the Stradale exhaust will fit on existing Modenas! Hmmmm...

Im sure US gvt dickheads will find a way to tune it down ...The car is homologated here in Europe as it is but still isnt for the USA ..
Lets hope it will pass ! Would be a shame to lose that sound !

well - there you have it then!

but won't it violate most track sound rules in the US and as well as city/town noise ordinances?

that thing is LOUD!

doody.

doody- I saw two of them bad boys in maranello last month. While outside the factory front gates I saw one drive by, and just going along it was louder than a 360 w/ tubi, cats, etc. It's the loudest street F car out. The current issue of Evo features the silver one I saw leaving the rear gate -very loud; the blue one I saw leaving repetedly while driving around the city. That vid, IMO, portrays the sound correctly.

that audio sounds like it's been messed with - perhaps just really cranked up. the volume didn't seem to necessarily sync with the distance of the car from the camera (which was FAR away).

i would be very interested in seeing some useful video of the car in action. when is tiff going to take one out?

doody.
