Bill, I have worked in television and film production and post production for many years. I am now working in an internet company that creates media. All of this work costs money to create. The intention is to make money by selling the work. When I see my work re purposed and publicly shown without license, in essence my work has been stolen. This is my sensitivity to copyright issues.

I have seen in the past that Ferrari will vigorously defend their trademark and properties. I would not want to get involved in a dust up with them. This is why I just want to exercise caution in using their materials.

The internet has had a major impact on sharing of work, copying and repurposing. Copyright law was created long before the digital age. Now people thing nothing of copying material and passing it along. (Look at Napster and the music industry.) I just like to make people aware of what they are doing. My non-legal feeling is that a repository of technical diagrams for this site is a great idea.

Bill S. -- for the schematic wire labeling:

Cu = Copper conductor material

2,5 or 1,5 or 10 or 35, etc. = conductor diameter in mm (the comma is the euro version of the decimal point i.e., 2,5 = 2.5 for the US convention)

N or A or GN, etc. = wire insulator color (N = Nero = Black, A = Azzurro = Azure, GN = Giallo rigato Nero = Yellow with Black, etc.)

The wires where only the wire insulator letter(s) are given are all Cu1,0 (they just leave this part off to keep the clutter down)

David,

Could you elaborate a little on the copyright issue and your concerns?

Steve,

Can you decipher some of the symbology on a schematic, specifically what do:

Cu2,5N
Cu1.5A

pointing to some wires denote?

Thanks,
Bill

Steve, you are correct. Looks like I have more scanning to do.

Bill, I agree with the schematic repository concept. I do have a concern about copyright issues. I have a sensitivity in this area because of the nature of the work I do. I probably overreact.

Any legal minds out there care to comment?

I just wanted to add the comment that you usually really need more than just a copy of the schematic itself to investigate electrical gremlins. The other items I've found necessary are:

1. the list of the balloon numbers giving the description of each item.

2. the list of wire color code abbreviations.

3. the list/description/diagram of the fuse positions.

4. the list/description/diagram of the relay positions.

(and on the more complex later cars) 5. the list/description of the connector locations.

One method I've found to determine the "quality" of a schematic (without being able to view it) is to ask the seller if the (tiny) letters/numbers on the fuses are legible. If they are, you can be sure that the wire color labels are too -- which is critical IMHO.

Thanks for all the help guys. I took Steve up on his offer and sent him a check for his owners manual. Thanks Steve.

David, I'd be interrested to see how your pdf file turns out. I'm also curious to see if the 77 wiring schematic is the same as that for my 78.

Wouldn't it be great if there were a location on this site that could hold schematics for all F-cars for reference purposes? Any possibility Rob?

Bill S. -- Please send me an email at the address listed in my Profile (I can't seem to contact you via what's in your Profile). I have an original 150/78 ('78 North American Version 308 GTB/S Owner's Manual) that I'd be willing to sell (I'm not eager to sell it, but reuniting it with a dedicated owner like yourself seems like a worthy cause).

I own a 75 308 GT4. I scanned the wiring diagram into my computer and then COLORED each line. It is 11 x 17. I will produce a copy for you including the notations for the numbered references and laminate it for $35 or trade for something.

OK, I got motivated and made a .pdf of the schematic. It is about 2meg in size. I did it pretty high resolution. I am going to clean it up in photoshop and try a test print on a plotter we have at work. It looks like it probably will work pretty nicely.

Sorry Magoo, it wasn't me, it was Gerrit Visser, who owns a '76 Euro GT4.

Hey Guys, email Peter at [email protected] . He may have been the one who showed the schematic.

Bill, one of the contributors to this site created a .pdf from a scanned schematic. It was for a GT4. It is high resolution and you can blow up sections or print out a large scale copy from this. Check it out in the Technical Q&A. The topic is "Electrical gremlins have fun at my expense" The contributor is Gerrit Visser (sp?). It is such a good idea that I am considering doing one for my '77 308. If you aren't in a big hurry I will post here when I have actually done that.

I need a clean original wiring schematic for a 78 308 GTS as found in an original owners manual. Copies of the OM's I've acquired over the last year and a half only have poor photo copies of the schematic or are for the wrong year/model car. I'd like to enlarge this borrowed original on a special print machine, up to 3 x 4 1/2 feet in size. To do this properly, the original would have to be removed from the OM, feed through the print machine, and then returned to the donor for reattachment to the OM. In return, I'd be happy to provide a couple of enlarged originals to the donor. If anyone is interrested, please email me.
Thanks, Bill
