I think Doody makes very good valid points. Time should be allow to pass so more rational minds can prevail to recognize how each proposed actions affect other parties. We should also recognize that the outside world may not be as affected about this tragedy. |

Doddy, I never even thought of the legalities of this and the effects it might have on Rob and Ferrarichat...I hope Rob takes this into account. thanks. |

i would like to chime in with some lengthy thoughts about the Forza idea, and this process in general. please know that i am absolutely not trying to be disrespectful of the deceased - i'm just hoping to point out some business realities and legal potentialities. i think the content of any such an ad needs to be very carefully considered; moreso, i think such an ad should probably be unbranded. i do not believe FNA/FSpA should be contacted. they will be put in an awkward position. i doubt they would want to get involved with this, as it has naught but negative potential in the long term for them. there really is no upside for them. i believe this for two reasons. first, people die in car accidents every day. it is horrible and painful for those who knew them. while we individually understand that our pastime has serious risks, many people don't see it that way. FNA knows this. FSpA knows that its cars are not MB S class safe. their marketing people will know that any official involvement of ferrari in such an ad would constitute potential negative brand impact. second, FChat has a relationship with FNA - even if only at arms-length. given the points above, simply asking them to be involved may make them uncomfortable. it could do some damage to the currently positive relationship, and is thus risky for FChat in the long term. simply asking may be problematic. any use of the cavallino rampante or other F trademarks (which would require approval from F - cf. point 1 above) should be avoided. furthermore, i would advise (and have) rob to consider carefully any linking of the FerrariChat brand to such an exercise. this is obviously a bit more controversial, and the downside is less crisp than it is for FSpA/FNA, but he should think really hard about this, imo. my understanding is that this tragedy occurred at an event organized by an FChat member as a meeting of FChat members. while the logistics and legalities are enormous given the nations and distances involved, litigation is an unpleasant fact of life on the planet. while i think most courts would have a tough time agreeing that FerrariChat LLC (or whatever the entity is) bears any responsibility whatsoever currently, if rob started linking FerrariChat with the tragedy in third party outlets the waters perhaps get muddier. as a side note, i think it would be in bad taste to do this if their families were not explicitly on board with it, and have final say-so re: the content. this is first and foremost a community of like-minded people who feel and care about tragedies like this - if for no other reason than we all know it could be us. there but for the grace of g-d go i. each and every community is only as valuable as its members wish it to be and are willing to make it. i would suggest that the community deal with this and consider keeping it off of rob's shoulders - except insofar as rob himself wishes to participate as a member of the community. my two (well, maybe six or eight) pennies. PLEASE don't interpret anything i've said as disrespect for the departed. i was very upset about all of this and it has affected me unpleasantly - as it has affected most of the people here. i just would hate to see something unforeseen and negative happen to this wonderful site as a result of these tribute efforts - especially since folks have found a bunch of other stupendous ways to honor these gentlemen without any of the aforementioned risks. doody. |

Rob, Thanks for making a memorial page and silence on fchat. These guys deserve no less. Wolfgang: thanks alot for calling me today. It helped me alot knowing some more about the accident itself and it's good to hear everything's being arranged and worked out well. I really appreciate what you're doing. It's been a tough couple of days since friday. It's been on my mind every second of the day, even if try not to think of it for a minute. Did decide to go to work today, but was kind of absent minded, as some of my co-workers noticed. Your call was more than welcome, thank you again. Ton: sorry for not emailing you yet. Seemed that everytime I started, it would raise all these questions in my mind again, causing me to walk away from the computer, only to comeback and deleting what I've just written, for it did not seem to make any sense at all. But that sums up the last few days I guess. It just doesn't make any sense... but maybe these things simply don't need to do so. They just...happen. The "why"s remain present but are bound not to be answered, atleast not in this lifetime. Looking forward to meeting you again soon, and talking things over some more. Also, thanks for being there the particular day. you helped alot, problably more then you think. bedtime now. -Roel Jens & Amar, may you both have found peace. |

All three are great ideas. I think the Forza ad should say "Con saluti cordialissimi" I always got a little chuckle out of that line at the end of his posts...seemed so formal. He will be deeply missed. I had another idea. Many of us attend track days and other Ferrari functions. How about a patch "In memory of" to put on our race suits or maybe a decal for our helmets? We could even sell them and donate the money to a charity in their name. I could have the decals made FOC. I don't want to be tacky or anything...I just think it helps in the healing process. What do you think?

Though I have been silent up until now, my heart goes out to all of those personally affected by this tragedy. I feel close to this community and especially to those who add such positive, warm, and accepting energy as Jens and Amar did. Count me in for whatever Rob chooses to do. I know it will be in good taste, a fitting tribute. I never met either fellow, but have read their posts and even in this stripped-down, black-and-white internet medium, they were class acts. |

Do we really want the wreath to say from Ferrarichat? Could there be some family members that are angry about the way that they passed and would not want to see a reminder of Ferrari? |

Agree to all. One thought on #2 though: There is the unfortunate chance, that as the FChat community grows, we will encounter similar events over the years. So how about a general memorial page? Kinda like the Memorial Wall of Fame at the Kennedy Space Center for fallen astronauts. |

Sorry I've been so quiet the past few days. I just returned to town last night. I've had very little time to review all the posts, so please assist me with some of the ways suggested for the FerrariChat.com community to pay its respects. Here's my initial proposal from what I've seen, please offer your advice and I would like to finalize the plans by tomorrow. 1) This Friday from 11am to noon CST FerrariChat.com will have an hour of silence. If you follow the FerrariChat.com url it will display a simple memorial page for that hour. For those that have the full forum link bookmarked or your browser isn't refreshed it will still take you to the board, but it will be closed. 2) I will create a permanent Memorial page for Amar & Jens that will be around forever, because FC will be around forever. 3) Ken Thomas and several others support a memorial ad in Forza magazine. I'll talk to the ad rep later today if he's in. Please advise. |
