I posted the following on a related thread:

I think that a Psychology major (if we have a degreed member here) should chime in on this post. I do not understand the attraction in having a need to see such pictures. I DO know that when people go to car races, boxing matches etc., most do not want to see great bodily injury or death, but they sure want to be there when it happens. I do remember the thread in which people sent in car crash pitures. That had quite a bit of posts in which nobody raised much fuss. I would guess it is the fact that most everyone had no connection with the people in those photos as they may have with the current accident that has garnered so much attention.

And Dave - I am not sure why you strongly disagree. This is almost like having sex and violence on TV. On the one hand it is cool to watch and a hoot. On the other hand where do you draw the line. Where do you censor? I know you will say that everyone had a choice on whether to click on the link to go there but I dont buy it. Again, there is a fine line. I clicked on the link. However, I know how I would feel if they were friends of mine (as it is, I am very saddened)

Wow - this is a tough one. I would say Dave - that while I saw the pictures and did not know jens and amar - I would personally choose to not have these photos or the link on this site. There are members that were close to the guys and were at the ring when it happened. It is tough for them and they are coming here for comfort.

But I am in agreement with your point of view about choices and freedom of speech too - this is a grey one.

I have just contacted the webmaster of that site and asked to take these pictures completely from the net. I do not want to see them on a site with crash pictures in the future.

Jesus, some of you guys remind me of the old lady who called the cops to report a guy masturbating in an apartment across the street. When the cops got there and couldn't see anything she said well you have to move a chair over here and stand on it to see over the railing.
All he did was post a link, and stated what it showed. No one forced anybody to look at anything.

Andrew, are you sure? However awful it is, there is also a lesson........ It shows that we are not invincible.

Even though we drive some of the most capable cars in the world, we (I mean I) do sometimes get carried away........ We (I mean I) sometimes drive our cars in a manner that turns out OK, because we are lucky, because there is not an unexpected event that turns our driving in a tragedy.......

I'm still in shock, and I don't understand how it is possible that a modern car like the Modena can get so utterly destroyed.

It makes me pause, and I was unable to take my car out this weekend.

It's hard to express my feelings. I'm confused. Even though I never met any of the Europe clan, I always read their posts, and felt close to them. I looked at the photo's and did not feel sensation, only sadness........

I hope, since they died doing what they loved, they are in Ferrari heaven........

I don't need to see crash pictures of people I had known, but I don't make that big a deal of it. The tragidy of the accident makes the debate about the pictures kind of pointless to me.

I disagree , a car crash pic looks for me as any other car crash pics . I dont need to see them and esp when a friend was killed in it , im not a racing engineer nor a Police officer , i wont be looking for evidence . Its just lugubrious .

I will not look at the photos, I refuse to. For the sake of their families & friends, let's make sure they don't wind up on some gormongers exotic car crash site, this can never be glorified by any means, period. I still get knots in my stomach just thinking about this.

Don't you guys have a sense of feeling when things are inapropriate (sp?) ?

It's great that you guys want to beware everybody off the dangers of high speed racing, but shouldn't you guys be warning everybody of walking around the street, eating bread, drinking water, watching tv etc. etc. aswell ???

Come on, pick a better time to warn everyone.

Until next month

I have to agree with Arlie here.

Choosing whether or not to view these disturbing photos does NOT diminish our love/respect/friendship for the deceased. But they are a humbling reminder of the very real downside of our automotive passion.

What better way to fully understand and appreciate the REAL WORLD hazards of high speed driving that to see what CAN happen even to veteran enthusiasts. No one is forced to look at those links. Let's not jump on the soapbox of censorship just because it happened to some of OUR people. IT COULD JUST AS EASILY HAPPEN TO ANYONE WHO SUBSCRIBES TO THE THEORY THAT IT IS PERMISSABLE TO PUNCH THE THROTTLE WHENEVER THE MOOD ARISES. Accidents happen. Let this be a warning to all. If it can happen on a controlled race track environment, it could EASILY happen to some of our board members who delight it running up the speed on public roads. Beware!!!

Faisal,

Still it is very unappropriate! I was there!!!! We left because we did not want to see the crashsite but wanted to remember them as they were. I am still in shock about the whole thing. I have trouble with the idea that people use this accident for sensationalism.
I think that it is better if I leave Fchat for a while.

Andrew and Ton:

I agree wholeheartedly. These photos are nauseating and in poor taste. Hopefully, decency will prevail and these will be deleted.
My prayers are with their loved ones.

Faisal,

Just because you can post something does not mean you should. It should have never been posted in the first place.

Hold on Andrew, Ton...if you or anyone else does not want to see the pics, simply don't click on the link.

It would have been crass to shove them in our faces, but he just provided a link.
