Matthew..Congrats on your new car! I had a '85VQ. It was just about bullet-proof. Just keep an eye on the 'repetitive' items, I am sure you will be OK. Just don't lose sight of the other items on your car that need attention from time-to-time. If you hear a strange noise, get it checked out ASAP. A pound of prevension prevails on these cars! Enjoy and welcome to FChat |

I bought my '84qv on May of 2002, to date i've put 10,000 miles on it. Never had any problems, I did do the 30k service as soon as I took delivery though, and new tires. I drive her every weekend, sat/sun. I'ts the best thihg, don't let it sit around. Living in Miami makes it easier to drive year round.Congratulations and good luck. |

Matt, I have had my 84 308 GTS QV for over 2 years. It is hands down the best car I have owned. I did the water pump once, and it has not ever let me down. A repetetive problem would make me think that the car was not used at all, that is the only way the water pump would go out that many times. When you get it home, drive the hell out of it!! They love to be driven. I just got a Tubi for my car yesterday, its not on the car yet though. |

Gary, thanks for the info. The service ticket said that the "Slow Down 5-8" light had come on, the Digiplex replacement was the apparent solution. |

Matthew, Congratulations on getting a QV! They are great cars! I've had my '83 for about five years and have really enjoyed it. The "slow down" lights are there to warn you if your exhaust system (and cats) ever overheat. If you happen to lose ignition on just one side of the engine it could possible keep on running on just the other bank and pump lots of raw fuel into the exhaust and cause a nasty exhaust melt down and/or worse. If one of the lights ever come on, pull over and turn off the engine. I don't know about the Digiplex problem. Sometimes electronics just fail on their own.I've never had any ignition problems other than the usual replacement of caps/rotors, plugs, etc.. Gary

Can you explain to me the "Slow Down" lights? And why would a firing problem necessitate the replacement of the digiplex? |

Matthew, Congrats on your "new" Ferrari! The QV water pump is typically pretty durable, so multiple replacements is a bit unusual. As far as electrical and electronic firing issues, it's a 20 year old car so most of those problems are not that surprising and probably nothing to worry too much about. Good luck and enjoy!

Please help me out. I have a "new to me" 1984 308 QV on it's way. The service history (49,000 miles) sems to have a repetitive history of mostly electrical, electronic firing problems, a well as multiple water pump replacments. The car is OK right now, but is this historical pattern unusual? |
