DJ Quiggle in TX. 817-403-8352. He is very nice, and helpful. I didn't buy a car from him as he didn't have 328 available, but he still called me how my car is doing after my purchase. He was referred to me by Norwood, too.

Motorcarts Internat. in MO found our Mondy for us. Seemed very nice but the car was not exactly as presented. They did do a great job of finding the color and model we were looking for.

We've used Motorcars International twice now and been very, very please with both transactions [and although they are a Saleen and Lambo dealer - our experience is with the broker side].

Well... I am actively searching!
Anyone have any leads on a:
Red/tan US 84/85 308 (GTS)?
I've been ready to buy for awhile, have had a couple of bad experiences so far.

I'm actually not looking for a car. I just wanted to do some research on how brokers are looked upon by some of you.

Two years ago I had wanted to become a broker, but I put it aside to work on a parts distributor on the internet. Now that the retailer is about to get off the ground and I won't have to run it on a day to day basis I'm getting interested in the brokerage business. I still have a large number of contacts all over the world that I could use.

Just doing some general research. Thanks guys.

Jason, Mr. Doody is right if you tell us what you are looking for you will get excellent info. I subscribe to practically every auto related magazine out there and have a couple hundred bookmarks with Ferraris for sale.

I bought my 400GT and 330GTC through a great broken by the name of Eddie Karam, 610.659.1983. Tell him his lawyer in Atlanta referred you. I have also received valuable info about Ferraris I was looking at from Steve Ahlgrim, 770.493.8852 and John Apen of Stone Mountain,Georgia (his phone# is not handy but he is listed)

Has anyone bought a Euro model then had it imported and converted? Too much hassle or what?

I used one in Atlanta for my 308 and Alfa. I would never not use this guy. Anyone need a referral for this area let me know and I'll email you his name. He used to work with a factory dealer for years and really knows older Ferraris. VERY trustworthy.

Sometimes the line between dealer and broker is blurred. Ooley and Blackburn have a dealership as well. Shuannesey is well known for his used wheel and parts biz. Most dealers also take cars on consignment.
There are some "pure" brokers out there that are bad news. There are true horror stories. So I would be careful.
Personally, I think there is an advantage to dealing with a car's actual owner, even if it's the dealer and, in general, you can get better deals than on a consigned car.

I used a broker to get my 360, and all I have to say is outstanding. The company is located in Carmel Indiana, and it is called Ooley & Blackburn. I delt with Steve Ooley, and all I can say is they stand behind there word, and are very well respected.

jason - it's all a factor of what you want and what you're looking for. you haven't shared any data, so you're not going to get particularly pointed responses.

if you're looking for a non-collector, recent-ish car, brokers are helpful if you simply don't want to invest the time.

i used a broker during my 355 search. it wasn't unpleasant, but it wasn't helpful either. there are a lot of really random guys doing brokering work. i used an FNA dealer as a broker during my search as well. that wasn't unpleasant, but also wasn't entirely helpful.

remember - there just aren't that many of any individual model on the market at any one time. by the time you filter for colors, mileage, condition, and geography, you're down to a couple dozen cars - absolute max - regardless of the model. it's not that hard to do the legwork from there.

if you're looking for a collector/vintage car, brokers can be helpful insofar as they've got a rolodex of all the current 330 GTS owners (or whatever you want).

my two pennies.

if you tell us what you're looking for i think you'll get far more useful data back.

doody.

Jason,
depends on what you are looking for.

Tom and Michael are mainly vintage car brokers. They can also get the collector cars, like a Barchetta etc. WHart can recommend someone there as well.
If you are looking for a regular driver the usual dealers can help. I personally do not do any classics, although I am getting a 512BBi for sale in excellent collector condition this week.
I will be off to see the car today and take pictures.

Sure.
ppi = pre-purchase inspection. Mine was $350 or so 7 years ago.

Mine was a US car. I gave him what I was looking for with preferences and found one within a week, although he said that was a bit quicker than usual.

He also is often quoted in Forza as a market expert. I'm not in the car biz, but in classic vehicles reputation and track record is seemingly almost everything. My experiance is that Tom is a straight shooter, and would use him again for a 456, 308GT4, 275GTB/4 or a 166. He knows his stuff.

Hope this helps.
best
Russ

Could you explain what "ppi" means? Was the car a US or Euro model?

Not sure. He presented the car and told me how much the car cost with his commission in the price, contingent upon a good ppi, which he insisted on. I arranged and paid for ppi. The price was good, ppi was great, so I didn't care about how much he was making. I sent him a check, the car showed up in a covered trailer. That was 7 years ago and I'm still happy.

Unconditional recommendation.

Anyone bought their car from a broker? Or even looked into it?

If so, which one?
