10/4 on that Peter. One comment does lead to another until we are in trouble. Magoo |

Magoo - Actually, her first comment was, "You will have to lose some weight before you get into that sling". So much for Tom Cruise, more like Lesley Nielson in Naked Gun III ! I think we should get back to more interesting subjects, like HH for instance. |

Hey, a bit like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible ! I did however run the idea past my wife and she only quipped back, "And what do you expect to achieve with the screw driver and flash light" ! |

Your wife might move the car out and put herself in its place! |

Like they have it in the movies in good jewlery heists! Love that idea. Your wife will know that you lost it when she comes into the garage and you are dangling from the ceiling with a screw driver and a clip-on flashlight! |

Sounds funny but Adam may have a good idea. Hmmm Use a creeper to work under the car and a hanging device to work over the car. Lets see, a sheet of plywood, some padding, threaded rod, a couple short pieces of uni strut |

Until it comes loose and drops on the car or you try to line it up when installing it and you chip the paint,"YIPES" I would try to do as much as I could without removing it. Your arms and hands will grow to fit the bends, curves and other awkward positions in the engine compartment. You may look a little wierd but you will feel a sense of accomplishment. Sorry, like Adam I couldn't resist saying what I was thinking. Just a joke. BRGDS. Magoo |

Peter; Could you also use the sling to support yourself over the car to get better access to engine compt. Sorry, it was the first thing that came to mind when you started about the sling. I needed a little laugh. |

Some things are easier with the engine cover removed. I have adapted an old sports car hard top sling I had that attaches to my garage roof. Once clipped to the 4 edges of the hood, I can remove the bolts and gas stays (disconnect L/plate light) and hoist it up out of the way. Takes about 10 minutes and it can be done without assistance or danger of damaging anything. |

Mike, It just looks impossible until you try it then it looks "damn" impossible. Keep trying until you get familiar with it. All things are relative, such as it is with your Ferrari. It is a strange animal but it won't bite. If you have the "want" to do it you will. |

I haven't removed it yet, I go with the contourtionist approach, but eventually (like when I go to replace the leaking destra valve cover soon) I will probably have to remove it. For most things though it's not worth it to take it off. If you jack the car up a little you can get to almost anything in the engine compartment from either the top or bottom. |

Mike -- consider yourself fortunate to have a 308QV. On my ex-carbed 308 just to get the airbox off required removing the engine bonnet --so for almost anything other than a simple oil or spark plug change the engine bonnet had to come off (as well as removing the rear wheels and fender liners). |

Do most of you that have 308's, remove the engine hood when trying to access the engine for hose changes and other various maintainence procedures? Thanks |
