easy cheap fix. this is the plastic coating ferrari used no one knows why. get goo be gone and take some time ang clean all the off the vents it took me about two hours to do all of mine and saved me over700.00 dollars i also used a little lacquer thinner but very carefully try it on a part you won,t see this worked much quicker. they put the coating on the vents to get rid of the shine they are perfectly black underneath. this is one of ferraris flaws along with the seatbelt retractor

I rarely clean the interior of my car as I seldom use it. As such, I'm sure I've not used any chemicals to clean the plastic vents. I think it's really a case of these plastic vents not being able to take the heat in Asia. The black triangular piece adjacent to each of the side mirrors is also melting.

You can take out the pieces and have them re-done. We do it for our customers all the time through our detailer.
Send me an e-mail with which pieces and I will get you a price. Cheaper than buying new ones and they will never do it again once treated.

I think Andrew has the answer. Many products as ArmourAll ?sp? and the like can damage plastics and over time makes certain components turn into goo. I have seen this a lot.

I have stopped putting on anything to preserve or shine plastics. They all say they are safe or designed specifically for plastics but I do not think so. Maybe sans sun exposure or heat these products are OK but not in high temperature environments.

Common problem, and probably not much can be done to prevent it. A friend has the same thing happening to the console pieces on his 92 512TR...

Thanks guys. I parked the car under the sun for 2 hours, hence the melting. Sounds weird but I understand it is not an uncommmon problem with 355s and 348s.

Melted!! Don't you think you should explore what was the cause first ?

Or do you already know? :-)

Ed if the vents are the same soft touch plastic as the 348 the problem seems to come from using silicone products to clean them.

Ed--contact my good friend , Andre, in Montreal at (514) 816-6009 or <[email protected]> . He's in the business of making fiberglass and carbon fiber parts and is just completing a complete set of carbon fiber interior parts for a fellow chatter's 348. If the 355 vents are the same as the 348 he could probably make you up a set fairly quickly. If they are different, you may have to send him your parts to copy. By the way, he does great work and is very reasonably -priced. Tell him I sent you.

If you send a p/m to Dan Marlett, a member of this board, he can give you the process to clean those off and redo them without having to replace them. He had the same problem on his 348...

The black plastic air conditioner vents in the interior of my 355GTS melted due to the heat. The plastic bits are now all sticky. Anyone knows where I can get the replacement bits and also how to install the same? It is the centre piece on the dashboard that melted. Thank you
