Having been able to road test the thing for a few days now I am liking it more every day. We only have one tall building in our town {6 stories} and it will loose the signal if I get caught at the redlight beside it. There is all the news you could ever want. If you want local news you can always switch back to regular radio. If you want National or World news there are several all news stations. I switch around between the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s stations the most and have heard songs that I have not heard in years. I have not heard "Satisfaction" yet. I would had rather have a "Built in" receiver however. I give the system a thumbs up.

This month's Road & Track has an article about satellite radio and they had opposing opinions. While quality of sound, limited ads and variety were plusses, people seemed to miss their local stations for news and so forth. They also experienced some "drop-out" in more urban areas.

I am going to buy one of the new Chevrolet Bel-Airs when they come out with them and will order a factory radio with the Satellite radio built in. I will then transfer the one I just purchased to the Ferrari as It has a Cassette.

Ed;

I bought the Pioneer that has a FM modulator so no tape player is needed. The sound is also much better with the modulator. The best is to replace the head unit with a XM ready unit.

In order to put the System adaptor in a car you have to have a cassette player as it has a fake cassette that inserts into the player that allows the seperate tuner to work. My Impala has a CD and no cassette in the radio and therefore it will not work. It will not work if you have an 8 track player either and there is no such thing as an 8 track adaptor for this system. You guys are too serious.

Edward, what do you mean by "You have to have a cassette radio too, no 8 tracks or CD only"? I've been mulling over the idea of this system also.

Well, it works just fine in the Sebring where it will live. I also purchased the in home adapter so I can also use it in my shop. The antenna cable will be a small problem though. There are around 130 stations. Biggest concearn is that you have to manually turn it off and there is not a good location for it. A factory equipped radio would be the best bet. You have to have a Cassette radio too, no 8 tracks or CD only.

I put XM in my truck last month. It is great for choice and quality but now I never listen to anything, I just keep changing stations to see what else is on. The worst part is that it also has a wireless remote. Just a guy needs, one more remote!

Well, I went and purchased one today. Only took about an hour to get it . Would have taken less time if I hadn't sent the poor teen Sales girl off on a tangent looking for an 8- track adapter.I am about to call and get my subscription. I will report back.

The problem that I have is that I listen to the radio all day long four days a week and am tired of the same songs played by the same stations almost at the same time every day. It dosen't matter what format, Rock, Oldies, or Lite rock they all play the same songs every day over and over. My wife listens to Oldies and this week I got into her car to run errands three times and heard the same song three times. I have heard "Satisfaction" by the Stones every day since 1965. ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!! I want some different songs. I go to restaurants and hear music that I have not heard in years off their Satallite. Don't say call the stations because they always say that this is what their marketing polls want. BULL .

I was one of the first to put XM in my ML430. It is great. The music is choices is huge, the lack of adverts on most of the stations is a big plus. The CD quality and reception cannot be beat. The only time it is off is for 2 min when I check the traffic on the 8's in NYC. The raw comedy station is the best when I get cought in traffic. The instalation is easy and the system is not expensive, and for $10 per month not a big deal. I am going to put it in the TR this month. I have turned several people on to it. I even listen to the 3 hr loops of the programming off of the web site at work. The only toy this year that I like better is my TiVo.

I can not see the point of that. We have a new radio station here in Miami called Party 93.1. They have dance music all day and all night with only 6 commercials and only one interruption for commercials. Just what I need!

Why spend extra $$$ on a satelite radio?

I have read about it, still seems expensive - i.e a monthly fee but that should come down. For folks near big cities that have many normal stations I am not sure of the need - though you don't get commercials and the sound qualtiy is better. I have not seen any adoption rates though

Has anyone purchased the new Satellite radio system for their home or car and can give some tips?
