This guy was selling Lotus "Europa" plates too...except they weren't correct for any model Europa. I doubt too many people would know that...but who would be stupid enough to create a counterfeit Europa??? LOL

The data plate does not constitue a identification of the car. For that you have to look at the stampled into the frame VIN in the engine comparement as well as engine and tranny numbers on the various parts.
The vin plate merely makes it easy for registration officers to look quick at the car. Window VIN plates make it possible for law enforcement to run a check of the VIN without you being present and further give the leverage to write down the VIN on a ticket to verify identiy of the car vs plate.

While not on a Ferrari, I have had trouble with a new car ID plate on a restored car. Upon taking my restored MG to be registered in New Mexico, they freaked out that the plate was not original (I guess they figured it looked too new) and I had a heck of a time proving to their satisfaction that the car was truely the same one as stamped on the plate. Probably easier with newer cars since the ID number is plastered on so many other parts.

Restoration shops have regularly done this in the past, and many a "restored" Ferrari has a new data plate to go with the new bodywork and new paint and new engine and new leather and new etc. etc. But at least they didn't commercialize the reproduction data plates

This particular style of data plate is NOT correct for all cars. For example for one period the data plates did not have the words "MADE ITALY" on them and at another period the plates said "MADE IN ITALY".
