Bill, I was 2 yrs old when my 275 was built, but I agree with you that most people do want the cars they lusted after in high school. Just look at the muscle car craze, or the way the Model A market has dried up as that generation has aged. I also have a '59 Corvette, and I am definately one of the younger guys at cruise night. |

Bill, I agree with your comments below regarding the cars which defined Ferrari. And regarding the clown shoes, I understand sales are quite brisk... they sold-out all 10 pairs in the first 2 months. |

It depends on your age and what influenced you to learn more about the marque. If you learned about Ferrari by watching Magnum, the 308/328/288 are probably your icons. Miami Vicers tend to like Testarossas. Others who discovered the marque during the mid-to-late-Sixties gravitate to the 250 GTO and it's close cousin the 275 GTB. It's just like the classic car market; you want the car you lusted after in high school. |

Tim's right. Today Ferrari races and builds fast street cars to support the sale of clown shoes... |

Toby, i dont agree with that at all. That was all enzo, when he went that went with him. Maybe thats how it was back in the 50's, 60's, and maybe the 70's & 80's when enzo was around. |

The F12002. F1 and racing is what Ferrari is all about. The only reason Ferrari street car exist is to support their racing. |

F40 or F50 for the 'ultimate'; 308 for a more streetable car. |

Yup, the popular images of Ferrari are the TR series and 308/328 series. Some people don't even know Ferrari build front-engined cars.

The image of a Ferrari for most non-Ferrari owners is the TR or 308 series. |

Andrew, The photo is a 275GTB. I just feel that it is as close as one can come to a 250GTO, without spending $8,000,000. |

How about a poor man's 250GTO? Seriously though, I have often felt the 275, in 2 or 4 cam, defined the mark. This is the view that ruined me. Of course, as the old saying goes, "there is one perfect Ferrari for everyone...".

I'd give them a ride in whatever Ferrari you have... that'll make the point much better than anything you could show them. But, I guess the ultimate would be to take them for a ride in a 360! While you're warming the car up, hand them a book with photos and history of either the 250 Testarossa or 330P (any of the 4)... and then, when warm, show them first hand what Ferrari is all about. |

I've been talking to a few friends of mine that don't really know much about Ferrari's and have come to an interesting conclusion. Their views on what a Ferrari is comes mainly from seeing them on TV and movies. So when they think of Ferrari they think of : Testarossa and 365gts/4 daytona from Miami Vice; 250GT California from Ferris Bueller's Day Off; 355 spyder from Fast and the Furious (argh ). My question to you is, what Ferrari would you pick to show a friend that knows nothing about the history and so on about Ferrari's, that says "THIS" is what a Ferrari is all about. My pick: 250GTO, has racing history, is quick, v12 up front where Enzo wanted it to be. |
