"top speed 110 mph?"
I haven't downloaded the article files yet but C&D tests of that vintage list the speeds in gears as what was achieved "during their test" (usually on the street and the dragstrip), not what the car is capable of under suitable conditions.
For example in the June 1975 issue, speeds in gears, "max test speed", for the 308 GT4 were 1st 43(7700), 2nd 65(7700), 3rd 91(7700), 4th 115(7200) and 5th 120(5700). Within the text they said that given the room, they thought that the car would do 140 mph. At the dragstrip they got 0-60 7.0 and a 1/4 mile time of 15.4 @ 90.6mph.
In the Sept '74 issue of R&T, Paul Frere tested one of the early euro GT4's and got a top speed of 152 mph @ 6700 rpm. Acceleration was 0-60 in 6.4 and the 1/4 mile in 14.6 @ 91.5 mph. of course there was a 340 lb. weight difference US vs. Euro and no emissions junk to rob HP.

Craig: According to my notes, Car & Driver did five articles related to the 348:

1) December 1989, 348tb introduction
2) September 1990, comparison test with NSX, Corvette ZR-1, Porsche Carrera 4, and Lotus Esprit Turbo SE
3) September 1991, "humorous" comparison with GMC Syclone pickup
4) March 1993, road test of 348tb
5) December 1993, road test of 348 Spider

I have listings on at least a dozen other magazine articles featuring the 348, plus several books, all of which are in my "library". I also have a Japanese disc purchased on ebay showing a 348 versus a 355 on a gocart track!

I've been looking for the back issues of C&D for their coverage of the 348. I'd like to get my hands on any article regarding this model.

Very nice article. Thanks.

Hi Everyone,
I recently got my hands on a 1977 Car and Driver Magazine review of the 1977 308 GTB. I have scanned it at high resolution and put it on-line if anyone wants to download it. It's here:
