BTW...inside auto industry hint for streak free windows. Use fresh newspaper with window cleaner. The paper will not scratch, and will give you 100% streak free glass. |

Nika, After reading your message about "pink frilly gloves", "soapy water" and "grimy places", my eyes may have read "beasts", but my brain definitely inserted an "r" in there... |

WM, what excatly did u mean with that "extra" that the car wash might have? From what i understand there are some nail salons around here that offer those specials. This damn drought hasnt kept me from washing my car. I just do it in the back where no one from the road can see. My neighboor has a garage that is set up for washing cars in, i;ll have to be more friendly with him, especialy this winter when im home from college with all the road salt. I personally wouldnt take an fcar to a car wash because the tracks are probably set to narrow and they probably are wide enough for 275's. but anything bigger would be a gamble. Plus they probably use shitty soap. I usually use zymol or turtle wax (depending on funds and priorities, which for a HS senior can vary alot from day to day. But if everything else wasnt enough to keep me away from a car wash place, knowing that my baby wouldnt be getting a quality wash with good soap would change my mind. |

Now that i think about it, this could be quite a good fetish. Exotic car wash, indeed! Just imagine the impulse items sold at the check out counter, rather than those nasty car deodorizers and cheesy license plate frames. And, of course, the employees would have appropriate uniforms. Always loved the scenes of Ursula Andress in a wetsuit in Dr. NO. |

Oh Gawd.....(look of panic) I MEAN I wear pink frilly rubber gloves AND clothes when I wash my cars....that's all I need to start rumours! I also have some secrets to getting a streak free shine - I change the soapy water often (many car washes recycle their water - YUCK). Those hand wash mits should be changed frequently - have one for the body and another for grimy places like wheels & rims. I have a little kit for washing the beasts too - although not as nice as that Ferrari kit Adam boughtfor his TR! So when I cancel a date by saying "I'm washing my car"..... I mean it ;) |

Yeah, the Dow Corning Car Wash, while mildly entertaining, doesn't hold a candle to the DYI 9do it yourself) Car Wash. Besides, why would I need Les Plastiques Fantastique when I can look at my lovely wife? ...Who remains clothed when I wash our cars, BTW... |

Oh WM - we had a car wash here like that: "T & A Car Wash" was its' name....how appropriate (snort chuckle) Sorry - but you couldn't pay me enough to go thru that car wash........those silicone "brushes" could damage a car! (meow) I love detailing my car - no detailer has done a better job. Yes it's time consuming - but not all things are meant to be rushed.....and I bet I'm the only person that washes her car with bright pink frilly rubber gloves on huh? LOL

I agree with Mitch, although I sympathize with those under water restrictions these days... But to me, one of the greatest Ferrari pleasures I have, next to driving in ours, is washing & drying them. Oh, to caress those curves, slats, and ducts! Woof! I think I need a private room now...;-) |

On the subject of "full service" car washes there was one in an outer borough of NYC (in Queens, i think) that involved topless chicks wiping down and drying the cars. I think you had to pay extra to sit in the car when it went thru. I don't know how good a job they did, nor whether there were ala carte extras (eg rim job) available for extra fees. I'll leave it at that, since this is a family site. |

The reason I asked was because there were some F-cars (F355, 308/328) at this place here in Dallas called Blue Planet that went through-I was shocked! I personally would hand was mine..if I had one. |

When we had the drought last year and water restrictions, I was washing the car anyway. Small community. One day a cop pulls up next to my driveway and leans out the window: "it would be a crime not to wash this beauty..." |

Fred, have you ever tried to work a top on a mondial? I put it down in the spring and up in the fall, well maybe I am exagerrating but I do wash it with the top down. The car never gets that dirty so I normally wash it in two phases. With front windows up I hose down the windshield, front hood and sides up to the end of the door, suds up and then rinse and dry. then do the back section in the same way, really only need to be careful by the engine not to spray inside the passeger compartment. I usually do the windows with glass cleaner so no need to spray them with the hose |

Here in the Bay Area there is a place getting a TON of biz from local Lexus/Benz/BMW owners that are not listening to the dealers instructions about NOT taking their cars to places that have the wash tracks, they are making some big $ fixing all those scraped rims! -Ben |

Marcus, I would not take my car through an automatic car wash for several reasons. 1. I do not think the waxed paint surfaces would take kindly to the spinning brushes of death. 2. Some Ferrari wheel tracks are wider in the back than the front a may cause some binding not to mention the rear tires are generally wider (10 or more inches). 3. The mirrors might be ripped off $$$$$$$$$$ 4. When you come out of the house of horrors, you still have to dry it off and if you take the time to do that, it would only take an extra 10 minutes or so to wash it first. 5. And finally, you would cheat yourself the luxury of stroking it in public without being arrested Joe

Run a Ferrari through a carwash? Are you kidding?! Think of the damage that track could do to your tires and wheels! Could you trust the workers at the carwash to towel dry your car without scratching your paint? |

Depends on the car. We have high pressure car wash stations which do not touch the car. Those are okay but be aware what car you bring in. A 308GTS will not work. The gap in the window to the top is too big and you will get y<ourself a "wash". I would only try that with a TR or a full Berlinetta. Not even my 348TS is tight enough to go through that car wash. |

I have never taken mine to a car wash though it is becoming a problem here in NJ. We are not allowed to wash our cars ourselves - drought. If I take it, I will go to a hand wash place but even then the soap they use strips any wax off the car, plus I usually wash the car with the top down so you need to be careful which many of these places are not |
