Sean I would suggest doing alot of the work yourself, but definately get the car checked out by a professional first. I bought a rough example with a good body and am in the process of restoring it. I've got tons of photos of various parts if you ever need anything feel free to ask. I am slowly becoming a GT4 junky, the car really grows on you and is the best bang for your buck as far as Ferraris go.

basket case, no engine for $4,500 !:-)

I personally would not spend over $20,000 for a good example. For $20K you can get a decent 308GTS or GTB, but then you might want the 4 seats.

I hage seen a few advertised lately for around $18K with premium examples for about $25K max. I like 'em and may buy one when I sell my GTSi.

Thanks, I am hoping to take a closer look this weekend and will report back as to what I find.

Do you know what the current price ranges are - excellent, good, fair, basket case, etc.?

Look out for the usual rust behind the front wheel wheels and rear wheel wheels and also both doors. The bottom 2 inches of the doors will rust due to poor design of drainage. Also remove chrome kick plate when the door is opened. Underneath the kick plate is another problem area for rusting. Rear trunk area just above the rear muffler is another problem area for rust due to the hot air generated by the thermoreactors baking on the undercoating. With enough time, the undercoating chips away and starts cracking. Rust will start once this occurs. Check for floating electrical grounds by turning on the headlights, try turn signals and brake lights. Lights should not blink or be faint looking. That is a sign of floating ground connections. Proper grounding is a 2 hour job on the GT4, you just simply sand away the undercoating and insure the ground connections are not grounded to undercoating, but only to the steel body. Have engine checked out by a professional mechanic.

I am looking at a GT4 that I know will need some work to be in great condition, but are there any specific problems that should make me walk away? I have a copy of "Original Ferrari V8" which gives the details on the cars, but doesn't say much as far as what to look out for. The car I am considering is a 75 w/ 65K miles. Any advice would be appreciated.
