Ross, good question, maybe that is a tradition started with 2-seater front-engine V12's around the time of the 275's? |

numbers. although names are sometimes evocative, most of the time they just sound affected. here is a question though, why do the 550/575 and 456 models not carry any exterior designation badges ? i can tell because i am a tifosi, but i can also tell a 355 from a 348 and yet they have their designation clearly marked on the back, same as my 512tr. whats the deal? |

I like the number with name approach. It might take a while to say the whole title, and I might look like a bit of a 'nana saying '365gt/4 Berlinetta Boxer' to the lady selling ferry tickets, but I don't really care what I look like. If it doesn't come with a name, give it a nickname: Daytona, California...What does one call a 348 GTB Challenge when first name terms are reached? |

Numbers, prefaced by mfr. Both BMW and Ferrari have 328 models. |

Mechanka, What's wrong with the name Land Rover Defender 90? I think it's better than Land Rover 90. The D90 was appropriately named after its 90 inch wheelbase.

Numbers. Stick with what works. What I find interesting is that people who aren't into cars don't know about numbers. I was looking for a tool, and the guy helping asked me what kind of car it was. I told him a 348. I then got the dear in headlights look. So I just told him it was a sports car. I mean come on, you work around tools and you don't know your cars. Now if I was to say 911, 993, 930, 944, you would think Porsche. Now if I say 355, 308, 512tr, 333sp, you think Ferrari. Or how about 280z, 300zx, r33, r34, Nissan right. So I say numbers, cause if they don't know that much then they don't even deserve to know it's a FERRARI, or any other car for that matter. |

Numbers as long as they keep it simple and don't ever start using decimals like the Acura 3.5TL |

I think that numbers would be my preference. Some manufacturers go overboard with these funky names - who can remember them all much less pronounce them. Some of my "favourites" are; Seat Alhambra V6 The supermini Hoda Jazz Citymatic VW Touareg - what a name Kia Shuma - why don't they just get it over with and call it the Schumacher Land Rover Defender - I wonder if it will defend you from a BGM-109 Tomahawk missile

Numbers, as they always have. Names are stupid (even the Enzo) and you always end up with some weird name. Italians always use numbers so lets stick with it, it works. Pete |

No, I'm curious how y'all feel. It seems traditionally Ferrari used numbers based on various engine measurements (displacement of a cylinder, number of valves/cyl, number of cyl, etc) |

If Ferrari could only use one naming convention for future models, which would you prefer - numbers/letters or names ? e.g 308GTB or Enzo Ferrari ... |
