So an update on my position, Aon's renewal came through at 1263 against 800 last year which I found unacceptable particularly as they've upped the excess by 500 and removed mileage carryover and trackday cover without an extra premium and massive excess and lastly they wanted the std Alarm/ Immobilisor upgrading, I note David's comments but I've been with them for 7 years so they've been feeding me Sprats for a while!

So a call around pretty much revealed higher prices or even more limited cover but through the Broker we use for our Company car fleet I managed to get it for 987 with a lower excess plus no mileage limit. The insurance is with Classic Line. If you're stuck give Tina a call at MRIB 01494 655011

Heritage (Norton) are the best in the UK from the calls I made last month so we concur.

My opinion of AON is unprintable

Hi Guys,

thanks again for all your suggestions. I have insured the car with Heritage, here are some more of my findings:

1. Carol Nash (0800 2985555) said they don't insure cars valued over 35,000

2. Footman James (0121 561 4196) won't do a classic policy on a car under 10 years old but were able to quote me 1090 on a regular policy. (I have used them before to insure a Porsche so they can be competetive if your car is old enough.)

3. Heritage (0121 246 6060) quoted me 603 with 1,500 miles limit and 500 excess. They also said that it covers me for ferrari track days, breakdown cover and legal cover, none of which I had asked for.

For completeness / comparison here are the other quotes (which are already mentioned lower down in this post)

4. Asset Trust had quoted me 1079 for my renewal, with 3,000 miles.

5. First Point (01604 499799) quoted 1108, 1,500 miles, I forgot to ask about excess.

6. Nowell Richards (01785 255514) quoted 1238, 1,500 miles, 600 excess and they needed to see the proof of NCB from my regular car.

7. AON (01483 706070) quoted 644 if I join the FOC or 712 if I don't. 1,500 miles, 500 excess and I can buy "blocks" of additional mileage in 500 mile chunks at 47 per time.

I have used Carol Nash for my 1977 400 (404) and my 1976 365 Boxer (534). These people beat everyone else and have no mileage restrictions. Don't know if this because they see them as classics but worth a call.

Justyn, your call but I was AON last year as they were extremely competitive in what was my first F car year, then when it came up for renewal last month they tried jacking my premium by 50% for no apparent reason! (I had no accidents, no claims, no tickets etc)

Needless to say I told them what I thought of that and went to Norton classic, who were within 10 of my first years premium, but also allow me to use it to go to work, something the AON policy would never allow!

Just be wary of AON sprat to catch a mackerel policy

I just tried BMW, when they realise it is a Ferrari they just give you the customer services number to call. I doubt they would be able to compete with specialist insurers.

The BMW motor insurance quotation procedure is identical to the Direct Line on-line procedure, I even recognised some of the wording so I reckon you are actually just getting a quote through Direct Line, its just badged as BMW.

Can I suggest BMW? I know it sounds strange but when I renewed my insurance on a Maserati 3200 they undercut everyone by 1,000!!!

Go to www.bmw.co.uk, click on the Financial Services link and then Insurance. It's operated by UK Insurance (I think) and you can get a quote online.

Cheers

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I don't get much time at work, but so far I have called 3 companies and here are the results so far:

Asset Trust had quoted me 1079 for my renewal, with 3,000 miles.

First Point (01604 499799) quoted 1108, 1,500 miles, I forgot to ask about excess.

Nowell Richards (01785 255514) quoted 1238, 1,500 miles, 600 excess and they needed to see the proof of NCB from my regular car.

AON (01483 706070) quoted 644 if I join the FOC or 712 if I don't. 1,500 miles, 500 excess and I can buy "blocks" of additional mileage in 500 mile chunks at 47 per time.

So AON looks favourite so far, I will try to call the other companies suggested to me today and will put the results together and let everyone know how I get on.

Regards,

Justyn.

All mine are through AON, great service and they were the cheapest, when we had a problem with the 400 (IE. my mother put it into her rockery!) they sorted it out without any fuss even got a courtsey car out of it, the best part is that they do (or did almost renwal time for me) a group Policy for all my cars with a no claims protector in it! Rossa 400i 911 and a Golf beater cost's me 1300 a year, and I'm a year younger than you!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions so far.

My car has a tracker as well as an immobiliser.

JRK - do you have a number for Priviledge by any chance please?

I'm going to start phoning around tomorrow, I'll record the results and post them for comparison, you never know it might help someone else out.

Justyn.

I'm currently insured by Royal & Sun Alliance arranged through Nowell Richards on a F355 Spider .Premium is around 1400 with 7 k limit and Tubi exhaust.A traker is expected to be fitted to any car over 30k in value by most insurers these days.Prior to Nowell Richards i was insured with Privilege.
I found AON to be very restrictive in their policy;i had to have everyday use of a second car ,in addition to my wife's,was not allowed to travel to/from work and was required to upgrade my traker retrieve to 24 hr gps traker.
i would give Nowell Richards a call 1st

Hi Justyn,

You could try classic line on 01455 639000, they charged me about 320 on my 1991 348 before I got my 355 F1, on which I think they are charging me about 850.

Cheers,

Peter.

Hi everyone,

its that nasty "insurance" time of year again for me. My current insurer Asset Trust has quoted me 1079 to insure my 1994 348 Spider with 3,000 miles limit.

I've been putting together a list of people to call to get quotes but was wondering if anyone could recommend any companies in particular? I am 32 and the car is a second vehicle, always garaged.

My list of people so far looks like this:

First Point
AON
Nowell Richards
Heritage
Footman James

Any suggestions warmly received!

Kind regards,

Justyn.
