Hey Doody, break out the suds cause I come your way about 4 to 6 times a year. My daughter goes to college in your neck of the woods. Plus, you have great driving country and that is a beautiful 550!

Jon, I should also say that you might want to retitle your thread next time. There ain't nuthin realistic about a Ferrari, no how, no way. When I brought my 550, my final answer to my wife as to why I brought the car was that I did because I could. After so many years of going the poor boy route, I decided that it was time to lift my leg high, ha! Good luck and buy the car. You'll love it. |

Jon, If resale is a concern, yellow is not exactly a '550 color' so to speak - BUT - if you love it, rock on, that's awesome! I would try to haggle with them on the color issue a bit for the price, so if you were down in the mid 120's, you would be doing awesome. But, as everyone is saying, 130ish seems about right. I also think the slide Doody noted is irrational and will be offset slightly by a stay at close to current values, which is good if you're buying a car now. Is this car the one in FL or close to it? I think it was on ebay, but I could be totally wrong. Either way, should be good stuff! --Dan |

Remember there really aren't that many US cars. There are about 1,000 550s in North America, 200 from each model year. I too believe that that slide from the 175 space down to the 125 space was a bit of an irrational move in valuations (too much too fast). We might sit where we are for a bit. Doody. |

I'll guess that wholesale on a 99 is about $120 to $125, which is roughly 60% of MSRP. Yellow is one of those colors that people either love or hate. This means that if a dealer is going to buy the car, he'll tell you that he would have to discount the price for the color. Now if he is going to sell you the car, he'd say that the color is worth a premium. Hey, that just bidness. Also while a Tubi can cost $4k to install, you don't get your money on resale. Because paying $5k to $10k over wholesale is a realistic expectation, I'd agree with Doody's estimate of $30k. But, you must get a PPI from someone who knows his stuff. Everything is dependent on condition. As far as depreciation, I've been told to expect $10,000 a year. Don't know how true that is. Just what I'v been told. Personally, I think that Maranellos will bottom out around $100k. Remember there really aren't that many US cars. Plus, this car is a lot more popular in Europe than here. Dale

Who cares about depreciation...Cars are meant to be driven. If you worry about depreciation you do not enjoy the car to the fullest. Drive it, don`t be worried about what its worth. For some a car is priceless because the love it so much, for some its just money...It doesn`t matter. |

Jon: I understand your concern about depreciation. I think the downside on the Maranello is minimal at this point, or so I hope. I bought a 1999 with 10,300 miles, TDF Blue, Light Grey interior with Carbon Fiber for 130k. It did NOT have the major done, but the car is concours and gorgeous. That would be the area to shoot for in my opinion. Best of Luck Mark |

if you have to ask how much depreciation, then you can't afford it :-) if it's had its major (which will be due within twelve months) maybe 130 if it's otherwise stellar. doody. |

What do you guy think a realistic price, not asking price would be for a 1999 550 with 8700 miles, tubi exhaust, 6 speed transmission, yellow with black and yellow seats. I am close to buying one but need to know what a fair price would be, and how much deprectiation there might be within 1 to 2 years. Any input is helpful. Thanks. |
