Corvettes also have a E/M button on the right of the dash. Maybe it was reading kph? Just kidding. Having spoken to some Corvette nuts who race their cars, 176 is not out of the question with relatively minor mods on a car. As for the convertible, I have no clue. Just don't do it top down! Your hair might catch on fire! Cheers |

Todd, that's the first you've mentioned of a throttle body - not that i know what those are, but i'm not gonna sit here and call you a liar - that's not my intention... i just find it hard to believe... Doubly so, due to its topless nature... |

Slade, granted my source wasn't there, but my source knows a thing or two about cars - especially driving them, fast... i'm not doubting that you saw 176 on the speedometer, i'm just questioning the verisimilitude of the reading... |

LOL, Todd... i spoke with a friend and my friend tells me that 176 in a 2002 Corvette is very highly unlikely; that speedometers on a lot of cars are notoriously inaccurate at high speeds and the fct that it was a convertible only adds to the decreasing possibility, as they're "less aerodynamically clean"... |

Todd, What air cleaner did you put? I have to get one for my vette and I'm in the dark. Heard horror stories on K&Ns. Then I also heard that they are largely unfounded and the problems occured because of poor use/maintenance of the filters. A buddy of mine suggested a Donaldson Blackwing, or something to that effect. Cheers |

Hey, Todd, i don't want to get involved in the 176mph debate, but i know plenty of women don't blink at 176mph anda few who've even driven at that speed... Referring to a guy as a lady these days cn be equally construed as a compliment... |

ladies if your afraid of speed pull your skirts down and pick up your purse. it was very late on highway94 noone around. I know i was doing 176 cause thats what my heads up display read. no drugs involved don't do them thats what give me the ability to do this semi sanely. I had a catback system put on it that was the only upgrade i did besides chrome wheels the thing would flat hall as- |

Taek- that was a fun run with Faisal, though I think you guys might have forgotten I was behind you some of the time (your cars have about 2x the power!). I actually saw 125 indicated at one point, and you two were pulling on me... er, not that any of us were ever there... Later I got that 'your speed is' radar sign up to 67. I love those things I'll save 160+ for the back straights though. TRs sure are incredible cars. Along with the 308 and later the 355, they pretty much ignited and permantly infused in me the love of Ferraris Trevor- I share a weekness for E38s |

I have a Vette. Never taken it over 155 but at 120 it isn't scary, far from it. Bay Area guys know what I'm talking about when I say 280South!! Same road I followed Faisal (TVRFreak) on his TVR at speed easily over 100. Even though that time it was with the Porsche Turbo, 100-130 jaunts on that stretch of blacktop is commonplace. As for 170+? Yikes. Not unless I'm at a track! But my Vette is running at around 2000RPM when I cruise at around 90mph in 6th gear. I think 6th is just an overdrive type gear though. Cheers |

Regular Corvettes are top speed limited at 172 MPH redline in 5th gear. Its done (talked about) all the time over on the Vette boards. But with any mods at all, 176 MPH is possible and quite probable. As to whether it is scarry or not, I don't know about C5s, but I had my C4 GS up to 166 many times. It was all over the road, and required a very delicate touch, but 166 was easy. |

Last night, I had my Yukon XL up to 164mph. I then casually turned to my semi-nude passenger, Britney Spears, and asked her to shake me another martini. As she was mixing the cocktail, I noticed my Metallica CD had ended, so I began fumbling in the floorboard looking for some Pat Boone tunes. Good thing that truck is so stable at speed! Then I woke up. |

If Vette speedos are like Ferrari ones, 176mph indicated is a true 41mph. LOL |

A 2002 vette convertable with a 350 horse LS1, and fuel limiting at 6200 rpm doing 176??? The same year Z06 with 405 horse will only do 171mph. |

if you go 176 in a regular stock Vette you are either insane, have a deathwish or had too many beers on your boat and saw double on the speedo. I had a Vette in German on the Autobahn up to 120Miles per hour and was scared as hell! That car was made for the US. drag starts on the traffic lights and 55MPH.

I have owned my 86 Testarossa for only 3 weeks now. A friend asked me if I had opened it up yet to see what it would do. My initial response was "No". Later, I mentioned that I had it up to about 100 before I realized it and had only gone through a couple of gear changes. My friend said "I thought you said you hadn't opened it up yet". My reply was, "I haven't, that was only 6/10ths". 100 comes up before you realize it and it is very effortless, it feels like you are just pulling out into traffic and running up to 65. These cars are unbelievable! |

Thanks Greg for letting me drive the TR! Man that thing has some legs on it. Followed JimE around his secret back street drive. Long, curvy roads with zero traffic. Got up to 120mph at one point when I passed Jim doing 80mph. I think I was just coming out of 3rd gear!!!! Then Jim had a blue Durango chase him down. The guy went right by me. I think he was so excited he saw Jim's 328 that he didn't realize he drove right by another Ferrari. Here is the local thread. http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/6532/277042.html?1057761013
