Last year, the Mosler ran in Grand Am GT versus the 360GT. Guess which car won the championship title? :-)

They entered one in the road and track supertuner challenge. You know, standing 1/4 into .9 mi road course, 100 -150 acceleration, 150 to 0 braking. I think the Mosler finished something like 10th out of 13. Even with the $50,000 photon upgrade it was overmatched by Ligenfelter, a couple of Viper and Mercedes tuners, a Porsche etc.

It looks pretty exotic, but no way I'd trade it for a 355. It seems like it would be a good starting point for a track car, but an equally bad starting point for a road car.

I was floored when a Silver Mosler passed me last year on the street!
Great looking car in person but I thought it was a Jag xjr 15.

I saw the car down the street at Tommy Morrisons house, which it all made sense then. Tommy Morrison had the Mobil 1 Corvette race teams. I found out later he is the board chair and director of operations for the MT900.

18 mph faster at top end is OK with me. But can it go for a while?

James: I can't believe it. A CAN AM racer on the street. Gee, officer, I think your radar gun is off... 217mph? Are you sure? I can't even fathom the feeling. Regards.

I'm not a huge fan of the Mosler's styling but compared to some of the previous Moslers, this one's a work of art.

Joao Barbosa races one in Grand Am in the GTS division with Justin Bell.

The Mosler uses a lot of Corvette parts. That's how it gets it's relatively low price. It's also very lightweight, so it scoots right along. They are pretty darn good looking in the flesh (fiberglass?).

One of them ran in this years Open Track Challenge (www.opentrackchallenge.com). He had some mechanical troubles with CV joints and eventually blowing the engine. Hayashi's site has a good diary of the whole event (http://www.nsxfiles.com/otc0_2003.htm).

Maybe it's my age. When I was younger I used to drive my Lola in it's can am spyder form, full race roller cam traco motor, straight cut Hewlett box on the road. Strait pipes. 30 years later I can still remember the stars overhead as I roared into the night. Now that car has AC and electric windows. Go figure...

That is an interesting point. On the street IMHO a few small changes can make a huge difference. The ability to cool. Brake pads that work when cold. Ventilation. A box that is usable without triple clutching. A bit of quiet. I'm willing to bet that I've put as many street miles on race cars as anyone and this is what I've found. Oh ground clearance and springs that are less than 700 lbs. Trust me on these things...

i love this car but it got ripped in most mag tests due to crazy race tranny. i dont know why they never tested the streetable version with real glass and pcar 6speed. i bet this would have gotten better reviews than the hideous saleen

Looks very professional, and can stand proud with race results that back up the 'supposed' performance.

Good stuff.

MT900 stands for "Mosler Trenne", Rod Trenne
(emphasis on last syllable). He actually designed the body of the car. I know because I sat in the cubicle next to him at Unigraphics. Bitching looking automobile. I guess he did use a lot of Ferrari and McLaren design clues.
There were a lot of design iterations (one with a split front window that kinda looked like a stealth fighter) but the end result did come out very nice i think. not that expensive for a supercar either!!!

It's powered by a vette z06 motor.
I'd imagine you could read as much as you'd like about the car via the manufacture website:

Warren Mosler has been designing and producing lightweight streetable cars for a while now. they used to be horrible looking with Chrysler K-Car engines. now they are better looking with Chevy small blocks.

Today I stopped at "Corvette Mike" in Anaheim, CA. This is not a Corvette dealer but sells only nice Corvettes. There was a 53 & 54 Corvette plus many more Corvettes. Jack Brown, a very nice guy, was showing me around when he pointed out a very interesting looking car. It was a dark dark red Mosler.
To me, it looked like something which belonged on a track not the street. Jack told me it was the fastest street car that Road & Track had ever tested. He also said they were in the process of getting it EPA & DOT aprroved for the street.

Do any of you know anything about this car?
