the october 1999 issue of road & track did a piece on a straman 550. page 54, according to the index.

does anybody have an R&T collection they'd care to sift through and scan or fax? i'd love to see pics!

can't find a lick of information on how to reach straman. $75K for a conversion though is awfully steep - hopefully that was the price for the first one???

doody.

That white TR was photographed from Alki in West Seattle, looking toward downtown Seattle. Funny, but I posted to Ferrarilist last year that I thought I saw a white convertible TR and it was at night, and just saw it for a second, and thought I was seeing things... :-) I guess not, but never seen it at a club event around here...

Mr.Doody,

I have read about a shop in Southern California that does the 550 conversion. I believe the business is called Straman Automotive Engineering

wow - absolutely stellar collection of photos and info, joop!

does anybody know of any shops doing spider conversions of Maranellos?

pavesi only converts Barchettas to spiders.

there's a shop in FL that converts Maranellos to Barchettas.

i have yet to hear of or see a picture of a Maranello Spider.

doody.

Testarossa Convertibles were not built by Ferrari themselves. But some conversions have been done by several other body-shops. Here are some examples:

If you do a web search, you will find that they indeed were made by outside vendors in the day. I think it has been discussed on the list here that the factory made one or two cars too.

I was driving outside of Tampa the other day when I saw a red Testarossa coming towards me. When it passed by me I was startled to see that it was a convertable. What is up with that?
Kit Car? Is there someone out there doing conversions? It looked way to big for a 348.
