The 66 LeMans race was a major victory for Ford not only did they finish 1-2-3 but in an attempt to really piss off Enzo they finished in formation giong for a tie. This was a bit unfair to Ken Miles who was leading the race and had to slow down for the "tie". What's worse is that the French weren't having any of it and ruled that it wasn't a tie and awarded 1 2 3 based on who had gone the longest distance so the car that had started futher back on the grid because it had qualified at a slower time was declared the winner. This was doubly sad for Miles as he had qualified faster and led by a large margin only slowing down for Ford's team ordered tie. A short while later he was killed testing the J car which evolved into the MK-IV. Whats even worse is that a lap counting mistake showed Miles to be on the same lap as the other cars even though he was a lap ahead. That's why he slowed. He knew he was a lap ahead but the officials misread the counters and he was robbed of his win. Next year at Daytona Enzo returned the insult and three P4 in formation crossed the line 1 2 3. One of those P4's is now mine and a pic of that finish was hanging on Enzo's office wall the day he died. Lord March (Charles) runs the Goodwood Festival of Speed one of the worlds greatest events. It's a hill climb/garden party for 300 of the greatest cars in the world and 3000 people. I've gone twice with my MK-IV and will probably go back next year. Every year in front of his home, Goodwood House he sets up a display piece. This year Chris Melia Prepared the replica's and worked on the design of the display. Chis is a real enthusist who builds, drives, and designs replica GT40's. Lee is of course John Holmans son and the head of Holman and Moody. Both of them are great guys. The cars on the ground are of course the real deal. |

Woah, that is very cool. Is there a little more history behind it available for those of us who don't know about Chris Melia, etc? --Dan |
