Heh, I have watched the movie...twice actually. My father sat me down when I was younger and made me watch it. I just checked my facts about it being the 512 before posting to make sure I didn't make a goof. I've accidently confused numerically deliniated cars before. I haven't read the book though, which I've been meaning to do. |

Again, what a car...I can't wait to see the pictures of it when it's finished! So beautiful. Ah yes, the 917's. Those were the cars that finally allowed Porsche to take the crown from Ferrari for a short time at the beggining of the 70's. I looked it up to make sure I was correct and the car that Ferrari was racing at the time against the 917 was the 512. I saw one at a 360 Challenge races a couple of months ago and when it went out on track my heart was racing unctonrollably. The sound was intoxicating. I have such respect for people who actually drive their historic race cars. There's nothing cooler than actually seeing them out on the road or on the track instead of in a museum or parked in someone's garage.

Faisal, Agreed on the 906. What a car!!! Also, check out its succesor the 910. Porsche and Ferrari had some great battles in the year the 906 and 910 came out. I believe it was the Ferrari 275LM that won out in the end. Justin

Faisal, You've got mail. That color is growing on me. It would be my dad's car, if it works out. But I would be the custodian. Someone has to make sure it's in driving condition for his trips back to the states. Vicnent. |

Vincent, you won't believe it. I saw that 355 with its first owner in Palo Alto a week after he had bought it. I had the exact same colour with a grey interior on order at the time (subsequently cancelled for my first TVR). I remember he was French, and in our short conversation at the traffic light, he revealted that Brad had sold it to him. Now it's back at home base, looking for another custodian, and you and your dad are interested in it. Too cool. Yes, it's still there, still looking gorgeous. Do the deed--before dinner tomorrow, if you can. |

That 906...don't know about you folks, but it got my heart pounding. After filling a web folder with everything I can find out, I am going to the bookstore to soak up everything I can about it. Very nice looking car. James, fear not, all is not lost. I drive night and day searching for glory...! Also, I was at Ferrari of San Fran today and saw a very nice model of a white P3 on the manager's desk, in a glass case. It was about a foot long, so it's a large scale. Looked really good. |

AAAACK!! James, Someone stole one of your headlight assemblies! Hunt whoever it was down and hang him/her by their toes! How did the P4 achieve such high speeds in Le Mans with such tiny wheels? Weird suspension setup too...

James, I will watch that movie just for grims and giggles. I don't necessarily have anything against Porsche its just that I REALLY love Ferrari's. I also love to read so when I finish the book I'm reading now I will read that one. What type of book it is anyway? |

James, Great suggestion for Jennifer! Anyone who doesn't have respect for Porsche needs to at least experience the movie "Le Mans" and read the book that goes with it to perhaps gain a new perspective. DES, Those photo's.......yummmmmmm.... |

Justin, I think you may have misunderstood me or maybe I said it the wrong way but I don't like Porsche. When I said that Porsche has no comparison to Ferraris. I meant that Ferrari are far better than Porsche. I don't find anything appealing about Porsche. Ferrari, however, is very appealing, especially the 360. That is my dream car. I also like the 308's and 328's. But just set the record straight. I LOVE FERRARI'S.... Not Porsche. |

Justin, Welcome to F-chat. I think you'll find that Ferraris are a passion for most of us, and thus some of their quirks are overlooked. Personally, I think that the plusses far outweigh any minuses. The car does not disappoint. This is a great place for sports car enthusiast, enjoy! Vincent. |

Faisal, Well, I didn't want to get into that one... anytime I've mentioned that I thought Porsche's had good fit and finish I've been attacked! But I do agree, Ferrari's look much better. They are some of the most beautiful, if not THE most beautiful cars in the world. The 360 spider...is there a more beautiful modern convertible at any price-point? And of course there are all the old Ferrari's - that list is too long to even bother with. |

Good response Justin. When I went to purchase my Turbo I had a lot of cars that I could have picked (Ferraris inclusive). The Turbo was the right choice, albeit a rather impulse decision. Then again, I don't plan on sticking to a single marque the whole time. You are right in that they are very good at what they do. Want to see a kick ass Porsche? Check out Bill Hart's GT2. Run a search and you should be able to find pics. I'm patiently waiting and watching from afar to see what kind of mods he does to it... Also, I'm into the classics. Modern Ferraris don't do it for me, although I might change my mind if I have one for a while (might just have to arrange that on my next trip to Asia). Price notwithstanding, gimme a carb'ed Euro 308 or Terry Springer's (Plexi) Daytona over any modern Ferrari, anyday. And don't get me started on Lamborghini 350s and P400s or Ferrari uberclassics like the Monzas and TRs (the Ferraris that matter, in my humble opinion)! It might be tough to believe this, especially if you are an admirer of Ferraris...but to some the best is not Ferrari. They just have a deep appreciation of the marque. This is, of course, not even dipping into the facts around Ferrari vs. Porsche and keeping in mind people's varying preferences and criterea for such a ranking. Cheers |

Justin, I don't think Ferraris have superior fit and finish to Porsches. Ferraris do look a hell of a lot better, though, IMO. |

"Porsche's have no comparison's to Ferrari's" ? "I don't get how anyone can look at a Porsche then look at a Ferrari and say, 'man I like the looks of the Porsche better!'" Wow, I must be on a Ferrari board or something?! Well, I'd have to respectfully disagree with both of you, despite this being a Ferrari board. Believe me, I LOVE Ferrari's, I love the beauty, the style, the sex-appeal, the history, etc. However, I am a huge fan of Porsche. Are they as glamerous as Ferrari's? No. Do they have as stylish and as quality a fit and finish as Ferrari's? No. However, I personally find many Porsche's extremely eye-catching....The GT2, GT3, Turbo.... Why do I love Porsche's though? Because aside from the fact that I personally find them very agressively good looking, most importantly of all, the do what they are designed to do extremely well, and that is to be driver's cars. Porsche to me represents the ultimate driver's car and as I love to drive, whether it be on twisty mountain roads, on track, etc. I feel a real draw to Porsche's. Honestly, I never get into the "which car is better" debate between Porsche and Ferrari because I see the cars as totally different with different plusses and minuses and I greatly appreciate both cars for what they are. Ideally, I'd like one or a couple of each in my garage ;) And just so you know, Jerry and Jennifer, I don't say this simply because I don't own a Ferrari, I've met many Ferrari owners who also own Porsche's who have said that while they unquestionably believe their Ferrari is sexier, more beautiful, more glamerous etc. (and I agree)that at the end of the day they have the most fun driving their GT3 ;)

Porsche's have no comparison to Ferrari's. Justin, don't feel bad I don't have a Ferrari either. I am ashamed to say that I was never really into any cars until a friend of my (who is truely a Ferrari fanantic) wouldn't shut up about Ferrari's. Since then I have been to a few shows and gatherings with him and have truly enjoyed myself more than I thought I would and have met some really nice people. Well, welcome to FChat. |

Never...perhaps just a little more Porsche crazy, but I still love Ferrari's! Oh, and anything Dan says about me is a lie. He's the infidel. Just yesterday he was saying that he wanted to take all the badges off his new car and replace them with a raging bull. Talk about anti-ferrari.....

I've had an account for some time now, but never posted and I figured it was time to say hello to everyone. Hopefully you'll allow a non-ferrari owner to hang-around occasionally on the message board Err....did I mention that on top of not owning a Ferrari, I also support McLaren and not that team in red from Scuderia? Having said that, I do love Ferrari's and have spent a good many hours gawking at them as well as limited time behind the wheel...amazing cars with incredible performance and an addictive engine note, not to mention tremendous history and beautiful interior and exterior styling. To the Bay Area people, I live in Los Altos. I'm sure I have actually seen some of you at the car corrals at Sears Point for the Ferrari Challenge Races or ALMS. I look forward to actually meeting some of you at some point. Perhaps if I'm lucky I'll be permitted to attend one of your gatherings? ;) Anyways, I just wanted to say hello to everyone. Justin |
