Sounds reasonable. But if Ferraris were more prone to bursting into flames than other mid-engined cars, you can bet NHTSA would order an immediate recall. They have a department that handles exactly these types of matters, called the Office of Vehicle Safety Compliance (OVSC). I think the more horrific the crash, the more media exposure it gets. So we see and hear disproportionately more about burnt wrecks. Go to wreckedexotics.com and you will see plenty of crashed Ferraris that were not engulfed in flames. Sadly, you will also see a few that were. | ||

Probably since the gas tank is near the engine. As well as the fact that its easier to swap ends in a mid engined car so you hit rear end first I suppose. | ||

It's good news that it wasn't our board member, but very sad & cannot imagine how disraught it could be for parents on losing a kid after 20 or so years of rearing. I tend to skip these subjects in newspapers. We all need to be careful on road, whatever we are driving. >and before i can post...there he is! i must type slow...
