Dom,

I have until Friday to get the PPI done. I plan on picking it up next Sunday. Any insight as to his scheduling?

I'll second Taek-Ho's advice about Mark Spencer. I did buy a car through his shop, and had mark perform the 30,000 mile service on the car, as well as installation of an electronic ignition and Stebro exhaust. He did an excellent, quality job.

He is a really great guy, with top quality work. He is a real Tifosi.

The only possible downside with Mark is time- He is really busy, and if you need it done quickly he may not be able to help you. But, it doesn't hurt to give him a call and see what kind of timeframe. His work is well worth any time delays.

Taek,

I agree with you...I will try to call Mark tomorrow. Different eyes do see different things.

Does he have a web site?

Mark Spencer has worked on lots of pretty hard core cars. When I went to visit him he probably had around ten Ferraris at his shop. He is trying to expand (so he says) but can't find a suitable location. From my understanding, all he does is Ferrari. I know he has worked on an F40, so there are folks who trust him with high $$ cars. He is also known to be very good with the modern cars.

I don't know what kind of relationship you have, but it isn't so much a matter of trust. I trust they would be as impartial as they are capable. Think about it this way. If someone has looked after a car for a while, they might not look at it hard enough because they already know certain things should be sorted because they were the ones who fixed it. Another thing. It's always good to have a fresh set of eyes looking at the car. They might find something the regulars missed.

Do any of you know the mechanics at Los Gatos?

here is the dilema...I agree that Los Gatos my not be impartial about the car. However, the relationship I have with the owner (of the car) should eliminate some worry as to future problems.

I don't know..but I need to call tomorrow.

Taek does Mark Spencer have a nice facility?

Or you could take it to Tony Palladino at Modena Motors at 111 El Camino Real in Redwood City. 650-368-5819.

Mark Spencer is in Campbell and I he comes well recommended. I almost bought a car from him but decided against it. Another member on this chat ended up buying it.

Taek & Kds...this is what I thought. Know of anyone around Los Gatos. It will be a pain in the butt for me or the owner to get it to Ferrari of San Francisco. I also have a time element (1 Week) for both the owner and myself.

Anymore advice?

I second Taek's notion as well regarding PPI's.

Always use someone else.

Don't know the mechanics, but the parts manager, Rich Lindell is a friend of mine... email him at [email protected] and he will point you in the right direction.

Mario,

I've heard some pretty sound advice on this matter in my search for cars. So gladly I pass it on:

Never get a PPI done by a mechanic/shop that services the cars.

I would get someone else to look at the car. There are plenty of very good people in the Bay Area.

Well the time has come. I have my name on a 355 from a private owner in Los Gatos. (Funny he's a family friend). I need a PPI done next week and Ferrari of Los Gatos...(now Silicon Valley Motorcars?) is close to the current owner.

Additionally, the car was purchased new and has been maintained at Ferrari of Los Gatos.

Does anyone have a mechanical contact there?

Mario

P.S. I will keep you all posted when this goes through!
