This thread has some interior shots taken in the pits of LeMans in 67. Looks similar. http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/271551/278444.html?1058488395 |

You'll have to admit that the bordeaux, tuck-and-roll vinyl appearance certainly looks vintage late-60s..... |

Martin These are the seats I got from Piper. Alberto thought they were original but Piper may have upgraded them. I'm not sure when F began backing the material in nomex or asbostos cloth. Anyone? Best |

James, now just for reference. Was that the original choice of material back then or did you "upgrade" it to that? I can totally see why one would do it with fire retardant material just wondering if they thought about that back in the 60s in the factory as well. |

Bert Those are the Luggage boxes. In 67 the LeMans rules required that even the prototype cars be road going. They had to have wipers, turn signals, head and tail lights and luggage boxes. They also had to carry a spare tire, a jack, and a Ko hammer. They also had to have about 4.5 inchs of ground clearance. Best |

Those were 512 M's although many were fakes built on Lola tubs as were some of the P 917's. Esp. those that were crashed. The book "A French Kiss with Death" goes into the making of the movie and is really interesting. After 1967 Ferrari stepped away from LeMans until the earily 70ies when they raced the 512's against the P 917's. |

Ihave a question too, for a while already. What are those 2 squares for, sticking out on the lower rear, left and right? They look a little out of place on such a beautiful otherwise rounded car, they must serve a specific purpose? |

While we're on this subject... James, I recently saw Le Mans (the movie) for the first time. What Ferrari's were used during that time period, and where are they in relation to your P3/4? Thanks in advance. |

Martin Vinal backed with nomex. (I installed the SPA super sized fire system) You're right about it's look. Best Patrick The MK-IV's have tunnel port iron head/block 427's with 2 Holley 4 barrel carbs. Dry sumped 25 quart oil system. 4 speed Ford T-44 transaxle The MKII's and MKIIB's were 427 as well but not tunnel port heads. |

I know Partick! The reason I am asking is that the trim look slike elevator curtains. I know that is how they looked like but wondered if the trim was ever or is not flame retardant, just like elevator curtains. (not trying to make fun here at all!) Don't know how to compare them otherwise.

James, little off the line here. Looking into the interior of your car, is the material the interior is layed out flame retardant or just leather? Martin

2325lbs. 550HP 500ftlbs torque with a 2.5/1 final ratio it went 223 @ 6400rpm's (I had thought it was @ 6800rpm but I looked at the timing sheets and race notes.) |

Thanks for answering the question...i'll try and spell your name correctly next time When you mention hearing the whispers of the people that drove them...I thought that you also see their frustration marks too(helmet dent on your GT40). What is the weight of your GT40 with both 45gallon tanks full? Thanks! |

Patrick I have driven each of these cars and they are wonderfull in their own way. It's impossible to compare them with my Lola, MK-IV, or P 3/4. My cars are 36 years old. They are therefore legal without having to pass safety and emmission standards like the car's you mentioned. The F cars you mentioned aren't race cars. The full race versions of those car's are not street legal. Racing has changed alot in 36 years. Back then LeMans was about top speed on the almost 3 mile long straight. Today with the Chicanes it's about downforce. The speeds were getting crazy high. A Pugot went 250. Ferrari has not won LeMans since Ford beat them in 66. I'd love to see the factory race there again but it's kinda hard to say no to Marlboro's 300 million anual sponsorship. It's apples and oranges for another reason. There were 4 LeMans MK-IV's, 1 P 3/4, 3 P4's. Car's like that are a part of history. When you drive them you feel that history. You hear the wispers of those who drove them in the rain, through the night into the dawn. When you sit in seats like these you feel them riding along with you as well...

Since you own three race cars turned street cars, how do you think Ferrari has done with their street legal race cars(F40, F50 and Enzo...Maybe the 288GTO too.)Do they feel like race cars(I presume you have driven these cars)? |
