Pete Etching primer must be sealed with a base coat before filling/sanding coat or it will attack filling/sanding coat. Follow instructions that come with it exactly. |

Well, I have found a source in Australia and they just think of it as etch primer ... but it is that light green or brown primer. Once primed you then seal, and if necessary do any minor filling. There is a technical (er, I think) term for this primer, or though it could be an old fashioned name that is not used anymore, that I used to know ... but for the life of me I cannot remember this term. Thanks Byron, I think Glazurit may supply a primer of this type. Anyway, one I buy this primer it may have this term written on the can Pete |

Pete PPG is now Ferrari's official supplier. They are very helpfull and can answer your questions. On Alum in the 60'ies they used zinc cromate. Best |

Okay this is only Ferrari related for those about to paint their Ferrari, but there is a special name or term used for the primer paint that you use for bare metal. And for some reason it has escaped me!!! You even are supposed to apply any filler on TOP of this paint. This paint is critical if you want the car to stay rust free for a respectable time, ie. like when new. I want to buy some and want to ensure I get the right stuff ... thus want to be able to talk the lingo. Anybody know? Thanks Pete |
