William, as a fellow 512 owner, I think u r god... 2 questions, 1) Which omp seats did you buy, cuz I wanna know which ones fit the best into the car, and does omp offer a bracket kit? 2) I feel the same way as you, it is an amazing car and I want another one too just to race... love to have a trashed one but I wanted to know what ballpark I should pay and expect for repairs... (Don't worry I live in asia so I won't steal your 3rd one)

Will I dont understand one thing:

Why did u choose the front spoiler u did? (its the only thing I think departs from the look of the car) Aren't there 2 intakes on 512TR front spoilers..one on 348s? is there a reason for the sharp incline? Is it just me or does the silver make it stand out more?

Thanks!

(Im not critizing...quite the contary....you are my idle! You race rediculously well and do it in my fav Ferrari!)

Looks great! I assume you are leaving off the cheese graters and the front grill assembly?

Are those Kinesis wheels? What sizes?

Would like pic of the area where the front fender meets the door....looks like an F40 how it drops back.

If this photo comes through you can see the interior. The hood is carbon fiber & the front fenders are fiberglass. Doors were VERY heavy. They are shut light hollow skins now

William, Curious to know what you had to go through to get the weight down. Was it just stripping of extras or have you remade panels and suspension.

No , it kicks in the same, its just that bcus the car weighs so much less it feels harder & actually accelerates the car harder.

William,

Yes I understand all that :-), but I have not clearly explained myself. Will try again ...

You have 2 512TR's I believe. One is a road car that you have tracked, and this one is a new race car. Both have standard engines ... and yet you are saying this race cars engines kicks in harder? ... or am I reading your posts incorrectly :-)

The 512TR has a 4 valve engine. A 4 valve engine tends to have a power peak at higher rpm. The 512TR has a Serious power increase at 4500 rpm, but 5-7000 rpm is where the action really kicks in.

Yes the 600-700 # weight difference makes a huge difference. Imagine how fast you could run a mile carrying 60# compared to your speed carrying no weight. Same for the car. Less weight = more speed :-)

William,

I am a little confused.

quote:

The engine, trans, computers, & suspension are all stock

Why is this car faster than your other one?. Is it simply because of massive weight removal?

quote:

5-7000 its like afterburners kicked in & I start thinking.

Do they all do this?, why does this car with the standard motor go so much harder?

Today was rather wet though I did get faster my lap times stayed at 2:20. I did the esses faster than I ever have before & I wasnt flat out like I was in my road 512TR. Damn the silver car is fast. 5-7000 its like afterburners kicked in & I start thinking. " Wheres the brake pedal ? I hope the brakes work!!! Damn that corners coming up fast!!!! Brake , brake brake!!!!! Aghhhhhh" :-)

ALready thinking about LRP, should be able to do my first sub 1:00 lap next weekend :-)

Cant wait to see what she'll do in Big Bend with less weight than a 308 and 512TR power :-)

WOndering if she'll do a wheelie on the uphill, Maybe I should have the mechanics install wheelie bars now :-)

The 'original' Interlaken is a town in Switzerland and as the name says (derived from Latin), the town lies between two lakes.

Interlagos means the same and sure enough is a town in between two lakes in Brazil (where the GP is held).

I would think the Interlaken here was founded by some Swiss emigrants.

I'll be at LRP Aug 1 & 2, Sunday is a Concours at the Interlaken. I usually never do Concours but with a brand new race car I might actually win something so might as well :-) I hope to have the car at Cavallino in Jan also

using Pagid blue pads in front & orange in the rear. Will be playing around with different pads.

William- what fluid are you running? Sure you have all the air out? Sure the fluid's actually boiling, and it's not the pads beding in? (what pads btw? ;) Smoke is normal (from petrol/silicone lubricants) when putting a new brake system in.

Cooling ducts connected and plumbed?

Best!

Yesterday was my 1st ever day at the track with my new 512TR racer. Its gorgeous in silver & very loud :-) 2750# dry, 2950 wet with 450hp. power to weight ratio of around 6.5 to 1. Not sure she is up to 450 hp yet. The engine, trans, computers, & suspension are all stock. Going with a Motec ignition system & Penske shocks soon.

1st day out I was limited to 5000rpm to break the engine in. Today the mechanic let me take her to redline & we found an odd noise & power loss around 6200 rpm that has now moved up to 67-6900 rpm. Brake fluid is overheating but its probably due to the system being so new. Did a 2:20 at WG today running at about 50% so she's going to be a rocket.

I let Bob Coates BBLM pass me & I tagged along behind him, I closed the gap on the front straight and my brakes are much better than his. He ran away in the esses cus I'm nowhere near comfortable enough to push my car in the corners yet. AFter the esses I started closing on him again till the chicane. The car is scarey fast from 5-7000 rpm. It is extremely fast on the back straight & its so lud & fast its intimidating.

Tommorow I'm back at WG for more fun & Lime Rock July 31 & Aug 1
