Hi again guys,
Thanks very much for all your suggestions. I went to Autoglass in the uk and they fixed it with resin in half an hour and you can hardly see the crack at all. They were pretty confident it won't split further and said if it did that they can replace ferrari windscreens. Price for 550 is about 500 gbp which was quite a bit less than I thought so am a lot happier today than last night. Check my pic!!! I didnt even have to pay as comes underr the fully comp insurance.

This afternoon Im gonna treat myself to a long drive and then I'm gonna book myself in to scuderia systems on Monday for a Tubi pipes only exhaust so that I can hear my baby really sing.
cheers.

Not sure about UK, but in states, most companies will repair glass under comprehensive without deductible. Whatever you do, do it quickly before cold weather hits. If not in line of sight, I'd probably let them do a resin job. If in line of sight, replace it.

Zak:

Check your insurance policy. You may have coverage for this, and if so, you can replace the windshield for merely the cost of your deductible.

Dont clean or touch the crack as it can hinder the repair. You want to take care of this ASAP before it becomes any worse.

I've had this resin injection done on a previous car.It works fine tho' you'll still see a tiny bubble where it 's been filled.Insurers love this option because you don't have to claim for a whole new 'screen and autoglass don't charge as long as you bring your insurance policy with you when the works done.

Zak, get in contact with someone like autoglass. I believe they inject a resin into the crack/chip and cure it with uv light. Even though this is a ferrari, glass is glass and if hit by a stone will chip be it in a VW of Ferrari. If it was a screen replacement then I would obviously look toward a specialist but in this instance I think it is work getting hold of autoglass or similar. You can check their website at www.autoglass.co.uk

if it were just a chip they could probably patch it up and you'd never know the difference. but if there are 4mm cracks radiating from each side, you might be SOL. those are likely to get longer and keep extending over time. definitely talk to a glass shop or two.

here in MA USA we have moronic laws re: auto insurance; and one of the stupid things is that there's no deductible on windshields. you can have your windshield replaced every year if you like. that sort of silliness causes the auto insurance system here to be so annoying and juvenile.

Zak, I've been told they can repair small chips/cracks like the one you described. But if the repair is made in your line of sight (or passenger's) you'll always see some distortion. Bummer! Hope all works out.

Hi guys,
I have just had some really bad luck with my 550 which Ive had for 2 months only. I was driving along at 60 mph on an English motorway when my windscreen/shield was hit by a small stone. This has caused a a small chip of about 1 or 2mm diameter with a small crack either side of the chip. The whole crack including the central chip is about 9mm long but doesnt seem to have reached into the inner surface. Its positioned about 20 cm away from the edge of the screen about half way up. Can anyone help with my queries.
1) Is this the kind of thing that can be fixed and how urgently does it need doing.
2) Is it possible that the whole windscreen needs to be replaced and if so how much would that cost me!!
3) I guess it would need to be replaced anyway if I was selling the car but I am not planning to sell for at least 3 years but I wonder whether screens will be available then?

I am so gutted but realise that I have to take the rough with smooth when owning a car such as this.
If anyone can help me or offer tips I would really appreciate it.
Thanks Zak
