James, I would love to hear it in person and see it fly. Maybe one day! Sunny |

Kevin- I belive the motor is race-only, ie probally in thw 14:1 compression range with the resulting 115 octane race gas requirement. Other than that, look at teh torque values. That kind of change can be had by changing cams Remember, F50GT had absolutely NO emmisions requirements, while F50 was 50 state legal! I'm with you on the weight, really want to know what is up! Guessing the tubs differ in crash resistance (the major reason why street automotive tubs weigh more than about 120lbs or so!) Building a carbon tub is real easy, it's so rigid! But CF is brittle, so much thicker sections "crash boxes" even) must be built. I would love to get your car and Art's together to compare one day Best! Ben.

Damn - 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and top speed of 235MPH. Someone said the Porsche GT1 and the Mercedes CLK GTR were faster - is that possible? This seems like astounding performance. |

Sunny My P4's engine is a stressed part of the chassis. It does only have 450hp but it's somewhat lighter. 1800lbs. |

Ask if he knows much about the differences? It must be made from some different materials of sort because the thing is nearly 900 lbs lighter. But the hp boost there is just huge and the displacement is the same. If it can run on pump gas the compression ratio can't go up too incredibly high. I can't believe that better air intake and so forth would produce that much more power so there must be something somewhere that adds the bulk of the umph and allows the higher revving -- must be ultralight/strong "from mars" stuff. Curious if anyone has any more specific details? |

Slightly OT: I recently spoke to ArtZ who owns the F-50-GT1 (code named "Elvis") which was crashed at Infineon, it'll be back and better than ever one day soon. He was happy to know that others are anxiously awaiting it's return. -Ben |

The answer is here, http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/21/287324.html?1059094720 Ben Cannon wrote: "PSK- it's a race motor to be sure, but check this: F50 road-going. 4.7litre V12, 520bhp @ 8,500rpm *right at redline*. torque (347 lb ft) at 6500rpm Designation "Tipo 130" F50GT race car. 4.7 litre V12, 750bhp@10,500rpm. *right at redline AGAIN!* torque peak: 383.5 ft lbs @ 8000 rpm. They just let it breathe a little longer, that's about it. Designation "Tipo 130a" You do the math, was it a pretty basic high compression rebuild: cams/pistons/springs and that's about it? Was the Tipo 130a motor actually slated for production, but Ferrari SPA decided to have it de-tuned because it would make the F50 into something you'd step into an INDY car to RELAX from? Oh, it's fun to think of the possabilaties, but this IS the only engine Ferrari ever elected to use as part of the car's frame directly ala F1... ever... Best! Ben."

So in flipping through my literatures, I am tryign to figure out what was done to the F50 to make it spew out an extra few ponies. supercars.net suggests the engine is still 4.7L. Did they put turbo's on it or something? What changed for the additional power? |
