Ansgar you are looking at over $15,000 to legally convert the car and drive it in the U.S. In the end you will approach the cost of a U.S. car. |

Just remember that if it's cheap for a reason (i.e. Euro and early model), it'll be cheap when you go to sell it as well. |

Here in Germany the price range for 96/97 550 Maranello begins at 80.000 Euro. The cheapest 575 at www.mobile.de is a 02 575 with 21.000 kilometer for 155.000 Euro. Good chance to buy a "cheap" Ferrari. |

About 6 months ago, before I brought my 1998 550, I put together the following price guidelines. The wholesale market for Ferraris is kinda thin, and there's not much info out there. But, I'd be interested in what you think. Note that "Excellent" doesn't exist. This is basically a delivery miles car. The cars that we buy and drive are "Good." Also the way the model works is to take the percentage value times MSRP to get the dollar value. Two rules of thumb (for a late model Ferrari) that I was told is (1) a $10K spread between wholesale and good, and (2) a $10K spread between years. Finally, I tried to do something like this for the 360s, but couldn't put the pieces together. Any car that starts out $50 to $75 over sticker breaks all the rules. Enjoy. 550 Price Guidelines MSRP Excellent Good Wholesale 2001 215,340 172,272 161,505 150,738 2000 213,300 159,975 149,310 138,645 1999 212,000 148,400 137,800 127,200 1998 204,000 132,600 122,400 112,200 1997 204,000 122,400 112,200 102,000 Percent of MSRP E G W 2001 80% 75% 70% 2000 75% 70% 65% 1999 70% 65% 60% 1998 65% 60% 55% 1997 60% 55% 50% ps Another rule of thumb that I was told is that an out-of-warranty Euro should be $10K less than a US car. |

your theory is rational HenryK, but i personally don't buy it. the market has memory, but it's rarely malicious. you may be right though. anybody remember how many years it took TRs to get down to the 70s? i agree on the new cars though. i seriously considered a new 575M, but the projected 2-3 year depreciation hit was more than i could rationally swallow. in fact it appears that 575s are not selling well, generally speaking. FSpA is sending out emailings now to folks trying to entice them into the showrooms to take a test drive. they're showing up at test events more, it appears. FoNE says they can't get them fast enough, and they're buying them from other dealers to meet demand. i guess New England is particularly anomalous in this market (?). it sure smells like Ferrari is having a tough time moving them. i think the general non-extreme response to the Maranello is going to result in a killer replacement. my only concern is that they're going to let the pendulum swing too far and come up with something a bit too extreme. now if they announced a 575M Spider, i'd bend over and take the depreciation like a man, no lube, and a big big smile on my face. screw the trunk and make it an automatic hardtop, and i'll be FSpA's for life . you guys listening over there?!?!?!? doody.

I think the pricing reflects people's VERY negative opinion of the WAY-OVER-INFLATED prices of Ferraris, in the past. No one wants to risk any more money on these cars than they have to, hence the downward prices. While "this ain't the 80's" anymore, many people still remember. These cars are now being treated for what they are......depreciating assets...and WOW, do they depreciate!!!!!!!!!!! While I like the 550M I will just wait, till the prices get into the 70K range. I really can't believe people buying new cars, at over $200K, only to see them take such a GREAT hit in depreciation......this is also true of other makes.

the 550 lemans blue maranello, us production 1997 model sold on EBay a few weeks ago for 113,000. I wish I lived a bit closer to San Diego where it was located to go take a look at it. It had 10,000 miles I believe and had a bordeaux interior. So prices of US moidels are down too... |

that price does not surprise me. i think it's insanely low, but given how that market has been behaving, i'm not floored or anything. if it's a properly converted euro car; and if it's been maintained properly; and if a PPI comes back solid, then that is one INCREDIBLE deal for an awful lot of car! doody. |

I found this 550 Maranello. Sure, it has 18k miles, and she was born as a Euro spec, but is that enough to make her less than $100,000???? This seems cheap... |
