Whoops forgot. I also will need to stash a car in Europe also. Hey, if you're gonna dream, dream big!

Actually Art, what I'd love to do is to leave the car in New Hampshire, fly up from time to time, drive around (Lime Rock, Watkins Glen, Adirondacks, Hudson Valley...) and then fly home.

My daughter goes to College in New Hampshire so I go up there 2 or 3 times a year anyway. (Now, if I could just get some bidness up there...)

If fact, while we're on the subject... What I'd like to keep a car stashed in Dana Point, Lake Tahoe, the Lolo Pass,....

Yep, as the lady sez, the road is my middle name...

Have you thought about a plane, with the car being trucked there?

VZ, you have obviously been there... I'm going to be driving a Porsche C4 from Derry, New Hampshire to Houston, Texas.

Plan A is to stay as high an elvation as possible, i.e., New York, Penn. W. Vir, Tenn... The truckers really own the Interstates that run through the valleys.

Plan B is to visit as many race tracks as possible. Only problem is that most tracks shut down after October. (I'll be doing this in November.)

Plan C is to visit as many Civil War sites as possible...

Plan D is, well, you call it. The more obscure and wacky, the better.

Thx

ps One of my favorite Western drives is to pick up Highway 50 at Pubelo Colorado and not stopping until you hit San Fran. If you have never driven it, you should. Be sure to use a reliable car. You will be a very long way from everything if your car breaks.

Tuff one, this is:

if you do southern I-40 route, is pretty drab from Knoxville all the way into Amarillo, so would suggest another route.

more southern route of I-20 is a bit better, but doesn't do much for me either.

Depending upon where you wanna end up in Texas, angling down from St. Louis might be ok on the map, but also not much interest to me there, either.

whatever you do, stay off the back roads of Alabama/Miss. unless you have LOTS of time. Looks short & sweet on the map, but gawd, these are OLD routes, stop in every podunk town you can imagine, every 20-30 miles, so that's out.

I don't know what to tell you on this one. I used to have a job where i travelled a lot, often drove instead of flying, but in going from Texas east/northeast, I never found a route I liked. Always some combo of congestion, crappy roads, not much scenery, etc, etc, etc. Got to the point where the only location east/northeast of TX i'd even consider driving to was Hot-Lanta, cuz i could make good time on the I-ways of I-40 or I-20.

However, didn't get up into Vermont/NH, where i understand it can be very scenic.

I suppose if you have a lot of time, you could construct some sort of interesting back routes, but your post wasn't specific about time or final destination point in TX(big state).

My favorite routes are going west from Texas or Colorado. Now there's some wide open interesting driving, with great scenery.

Wayne, I hope that this is not OT, if so...

Sometime after October, I'm gonna drive a Porsche from New Hampshire to Texas, and I'm interested your ideas on places to see and roads to drive along the way.

I'm also interested in doing any driving schools or track days along the way. I have already checked out Lime Rock, VIR, Road Atlanta. The Porsche Driving School at Barber is sold out. I'm trying to get someone from BMW to talk to me about their track in South Carolina.

Any and all comments will be appreciated. Thanks.

ps I hate Interstates!
