I drove my 348 Spider from Atlanta to Indy and back last week for the USGP. I carried two cans of fix-a-flat, two quarts of oil and my cell phone. In the approximately 1400 mile trip I only had to add a little of the oil. |

Just did a 700 mile trip in my '77 308. I always check the car (any car) out before any long trip out of my immediate area. I agree with the can of fix a flat, cell phone and modest tool complement. In addition we carry a blanket, towels and water. These can come in handy. On our recent trip we came upon an overturned vehicle. The driver had fallen asleep at the wheel and they flipped over into a ditch. We arrived just after it happened. They were bloodied and bruised, but fortunately alright. Water is very important for victims of shock and also for people in the middle of the road on a hot day. Likewise, blankets and towels can come in handy. Like if you happen to see a great lake or river to go skinny dipping in! |

Charles, I drove my 348ts from San Jose, CA to Mesa, AZ last Memorial day weekend and back. 348s do not have spare tires, just cans of fix-it flat. All 4 of my tires are new and I did not worry. If I had had a problem then I would have called road side assistance and would not have worried about it. Have a great time! Dan |

I welcome your suggestions. I always take my own "travel" set of tools, oil and fuses. I just don't want to get into extensive road-side repairs. In my opinion attempting to jack a car on the side of the road with the original equipment jack is just not worth it. I have had road trip adventures though. I once had the throttle cable break on my 914-6, and drove from the Ashville area back to Knoxville pulling on a hand throttle with my left hand out the window. |

I just completed a 3,000 road trip in my 308 GTSi; I took AAA card, Cell phone, lots of cash, phone numbers of every shop on route, ton of tools, fix-a-flat, oil, coolant etc. Didn't need any of it. Have fun!! |

I would leave the spare at home and have the luggage room. Carry a couple of cans of fix-a-flat just in case. That's all my 348 Spider and BMW M5 has anyway. You'll be fine. |

If I had a spare I would leave it in for a road trip, But I don't.... If you do decide to take it out, I would carry a couple of the large cans of fixiflat just in case. You never know when you'll pass an area that your cell can't establish a connection... Good Luck on your road trip! |

My suggestions Travel light and take your spare AND a couple blocks of 2x4s I know I had a flat once in my 328 and couldnt fit the jack under the car. If you do need a tow, make sure they send a flatbed and take some other tools not included in your tool kit----Also, make sure you know the basics including where your fuse box is etc. I also carry the phone #s of any authorized dealers along the way. Have fun |

I'm going on my first real road trip in my 328 next weekend. I'll be driving from Knoxville into the Mountians to Ashville, NC. Should be a great trip. My question is: should I take out my spare tire so I can have more luggage space? I have a cell phone pre-programed for AAA. If I have a problem , I'm not really interested in trying to fix it on the side of the road. What do you think? |
