I went to the F1 last year at Indy and at least the tickets were cheap. I sat in the short chute between (500 configuration) turns 1 and 2, nice and high up and paid about 1/2 face at 9 am. Just like the Brickyard 400 where I paid face the first year and almost 3x face last time I went, I expect F1 prices to go higher. Considering that the crowd was smaller than the 500 and there are rooms available for the 500 now (F*CK YOU TONY GEORGE!!!) if there is a shortage of rooms for F1 than I am VERY suspicious of shenanagins.

I can forsee this impacting the attendance of the event as it is already impacting mine. After a while it comes down to how much pleasure you receive versus the cost. I would hate to see such a fine event cancelled in the future due to motel prices. The IRL race at Disney World is a prime example of being overpriced by ticket prices and lodging. It has been cancelled. The IRL race at Charlotte was a fine event and reasonably priced and well attended but cancelled due to the spectator tragedy. I feel the Speedway should put some pressure on the Motel owner group because it is by their hand that they are fed. Call after call was made and the answer was usually like this. "Our normal rate is $69.95 but oh, that is a race event so we have a minimum 4 night at $200.00 per night". I also believe in a free market economy but there is also such a thing as a Monopoly and without Monopoly laws we could not afford to be owning Ferraris.

You think that's bad, try booking rooms in Vegas on the weekend...(especially when COMDEX is on)

I will definitely agree with you that those people are schmucks, but I am all for the free market economy and I am strongly against any government regulation. Makes me think that the more we open the door to the government, the sooner they'll try to turn this country into socialism (communism if they could, then they'd control everything). It reminds me of the FCA section for the northwest they have a bunch of acronyms, IRS: Short for "Internal Revenue Service," the government agency that makes sure you can only afford a Ferrari worth half of the one you actually want. That's just classy.

I've had this happen many times before... I've had Wichita Falls, TX raise prices every year during their Hotter N Hell bike race and then Key West, FA during spring break. I believe in a free market economy, but special once a year events maybe should be regulated.

If any of you have tickets for the 2001 Formula 1 race at Indy and you do not have a Motel room, you may be S.O.L. We called a 100 mile radius and finally found a room after 2 hours for an insane amount of money. In fact it was so outrageous that I am only going to stay one night. Most places that did have rooms wanted a four night minimum at an average of $200.00 per night. That is criminal. They have laws against ticket scalping but none against room scalping. There should be a law against such gouging. I am not cheap by any means but I do have principals and I refuse to be taken no matter how well off I am.
