Tino;
on the track the car gets sandblasted. No wonder why you had problems.
I have seen some dents in the 3M on other cars. A friend has it on his Lambo and yes you can see some strong hits if you look very close, but then the car would have been trashed and the holes are barely visible.
I would say the $ 600 install of the tape is less than refinishing the nose. So it pays either way and you can keep the 3-M on your car for longer than the first time you would refinish.

Put it this way...Maranello Concessionaires which is the official UK Ferrari importers' offer 3M Scotchcal application......They also put it on the 360 Challenge cars that they maintain.

I'm sorry I did not make myself clear. I did NOT yet try 3M on my 360 but from past experience on my formula race cars, 3M tape got to look pretty bad after a while and peeled off the paint when removed. I do not have first hand experience with 3M application/removal on modern Ferrari finish. Any one got to that stage yet ?

I agree.
Even if the film is indented, still the paint underneath is good. The only other remedy is to drive around with a nose condom and how bad does that look. I take dented 3M anytime.

Check out Stongard.com. Have a Stongard technician come and apply the product. My guy worked 4 hours to put it on. You can not see the film at all.

Anybody know if Ferrari uses elastic paint for the front bumpers?

That absolutely positively should not happen.....Did you contact 3M about this.....Can I ask if you had a professional remove the film (there are a number of chemicals they have to facilitate removal)......
I also agree with you that the film can become indented....in response to that I would say imagine what the paint would have looked like if the film wasn't there.....

We should not have to accept an inferior finish because of environmental restrictions.
Jason, I have a problem with 3M tape: While it may protect paint, it will itself be dentend by chips and when it gets bad enough to take off and change, it takes the paint off with it. You're back to square one when you have to repaint the bumper. BTW, it's not just the bumper; the hood and fenders are not doing muvh better.

This is due to the fact that paint composition has been changed for enviromental compliance....there used to be significant amounts of lead in paint which amongst other things gave the paint durability against chipping....I believe that paints are now water based.....couple this with the fact that the paint doesn't 'adhere' quite so well to aluminimum, and I'm afraid the result is paint chipping......I strongly suggest that you use 3M scotchcal on the side sills, front bumpers and wheel arches.....This is a specially formulated ballistic plastic that WILL stop the bumper from chipping (it also doesn't 'peel' off, will not yellow and will allow the sun to fade your paint evenly, so that if you remove film, there will be no color mismatch)......The helicopter tape used by Ferrari is quite frankly useless....It offers little to no protection, is prone to peeling, and yellows very badly (especially on your car color).....I actually had my front bumper removed in order to get a perfect Scotchcal application (you can't see any lines).....It looks absolutely perfect, trust me this is the way to go

Me too.However I just touch it up and when it gets bad enough will have the bumper repainted.

This is for 360 owners.
Is anyone experiencing very bad paint chipping on front bumper, hood and fenders ? It seems the slightest object impact is chipping the paint; way more than any other car I've owned including aluminum cars. Just a regular (no tail-gating of course) drive seems to produce a bunch of damage. My car is a 2000 grigio titanio.
( I know about tape and Speed Lingerie, I am more interersted in other owners having the same symptoms)
