Willis,

I think I know what the problem was. If you look at all the photos you provided your black car is the only car that does not have either the engine hood open or the front bonnet open ...

Thus I think your car was sulking that you were not showing her off enough :-) :-)

Remember these mistresses need to feel that they are getting all the attention ;)

Best of luck.

You think I wasn't pissed?

To be fair to my 360, this was the first time a breakdown occurred in over 20K miles of reliable all-season driving. The culpable components will be replaced and the car should be good as new.

Er, maybe not luck ... but after getting calls from broken down owners who are actually driving their car, they realised that they need towing companies ALL over the place :-) :-)

Maybe just about every towing company is on their list :-) :-)

Good luck with the car in the future ... I must admit I would be pissed, even when I know that Ferrari does not reliable cars, just fast ones.

Some 360's had a problem with the tranny not going to neutral. In those cases, a special tool was used to return the tranny to N. If this is the case, its probably no big deal, but i'd be worried if it would happen again.

Well, I talked with the service manager at the dealership and he gave me a summary of what they found and the fix for my 360.

The F1 actuator was out of alignment and it's leaking fluids. It will be replaced under warranty. The components are backordered so it might be some time before I get my car back on the road.

Willis, I'm happy to hear that all was taken care of prior to us leaving you there with Dr S.
Were those roads AWESOME or what?!!:-)

We've got to get back up there. Its been a while since I've been up that way and I had forgotten how incrdible it was. You're right, 355s and 360s were made for those types of roads!

Byron.............Anytime buddy......You could join us for a run up the North Cascades again. You wouldn't believe how beautiful it is. Actually I think Dan is supposed to come up here sometime in August.....I'm hoping I will be around to hook up with him. You could join him!

Willis, tough break for you - good to hear your car is safely home.

I definitely need to make it up to the Pacific Northwest for some drives! Kuzi - hint! hint!!

Jim E,

The towing company was just across and down the street probably about 300 feet away. The guy's other truck is a flatbed. I called Ferrari Roadside Assistance and found out that this company was on their list. How lucky was that?!! :-) The car was flatbedded to Seattle yesterday.

John, It would have been a little bit more inconvenient if the car locked up at Diablo Lake. :-)

But at least I got to drive those awesome mountain twisties before it happened. 355s and 360s were the perfect vehicles to take them on. Did you or anyone else take pictures while in those twisties?

Willis, how did you get it out of there? It doesn't look like a there's a Ferrari mechanic around. Did you import a flat bed tow truck?

Jim E,

Initially, he tried to get that lifting fork under the car as in Dr. Shelbee's pictures. But we found that, in lifting the rear wheels, the fork could have crushed the gearbox section of the undertray. So we wound up using those wheeled jacks on the back of his truck and pushed the car around by hand. Check out the last picture in my first post.

I curious about the success of using that style tow truck with a Ferrari. I'd think there would be a lot of scraping?

Willis, what a wonderful weekend! So much fun, so little time so many roads. We are lucky the clutch didnt stick at Diablo lake overlook? At least the truck was two blocks up the road.

That's really too bad Willis. I saw a black 360 in Houston the other day that reminded me of your car. Black is definitely a great color for the 360.

I predict that in a few years the manual tranny cars will trade at a significant premium over the F-1's.

I just wonder how many F1 trannies Ferrari would sell if the potential buyer understood how many of them give trouble now and again?..........

Willis, sorry that we didn't spot you! You should have ran out towards the street waving your arms!

Here's another shot of your black 360 at the front of the pack on Saturday morning in Leavenworth. I believe that's you on the right, wearing the khaki shorts.

Gary,

Did you guys see the tow truck on the left hand side as you drove through Marblemount? My car was hidden behind the bushes that bordered the restaurant parking lot. I waved at you guys as you pass but nobody saw me.

I forgot you took that picture at the Historics. Thank you!

Willis, it sure was a fun weekend with the Ferrari Club gang! Sorry to hear about your F1 system locking up.... I drove back with the last group of cars (7) about an hour after you guys left the hotel.

Maybe this will cheer you up. A picture of you and your car winning a trophy in the car corral at the Vintage Historic Races in Seattle three weeks ago.

Gorgeous backdrop. A good reminder for those of us who are often city-bound, that the great outdoors is spectacular. Pics also remind me that the 360 looks so right in black. Sorry for your troubles. Please report back on diagnosis and fix, since it seems we are compiling a wealth of anecdotal problems here.

Sorry Willis.....:-(

I saw you guys near Winthrop! I rode my Harley to the Freestone Inn (just outside Mazama) this weekend and while taking a walk Sunday morning with my wife I heard that "familiar" sound! I looked up and yelled "There goes the Ferrari club guys!!!" It was a beautiful sight - several F cars rumbling down the freeway. I waved but no one noticed - going a bit too fast perhaps? :-)

It was a beautiful weekend and the only way to run through the North Cascades is either in a Ferrari or on a bike. Simply spectacular!

Wills, Sorry to hear about the premature end to your drive, the pics look amazing. I had a similar thing happen when I first got my car and called out the mechanic who wacked on the brake pedal as if doing an emergency stop and it moved back to neutral. It may not work every time but worth a try.

I've never seen so many 360's in my life... Yet again the woes of the F1 gearbox, wonder what JRV will have to say. Looks like you had fun up until the mishap, nice car! :-)

Peter,

I was backing the car out of the restaurant parking lot. The engine died. Attempted to restart but the transmission was locked in reverse. Will not engage neutral so the engine won't start. No warning lights at all and the car drove beautifully all weekend until that point.

I must say that everyone in my driving group was kind enough to lend a hand. Big thanks to Kuzi, JHaller, Jackson, Albert, their respective spouses, and Dr. Shelbee.
