I don't know exactly when they hit LA, but I believe it is today and I know the final party is at the Playboy mansion. Go to www.gumball3000.com and check the message boards.

I noticed there's a Diablo in the pack.... is there any way this guy can make it 3000 miles w/out a major breakdown?

I am not too good on estimates, but there were easily 50 or 60 cars in the courtyard area. I left around 10 pm and there were still cars showing up. When I went back in the morning, there were a few more I hadn't seen, but I probably missed a lot since I thought they were leaving at 9:30 instead of 9.

You see in the yellow M3 pic there is a black 512M in the background, cool. Not that I am going to do something like this, but I wonder if a 308, Mondial, TR, etc from this time period could make this trip. I bet it could.

Someone was talking about this video a couple months ago. I wonder if anyone has a computer clip of it? I never saw it but am interested in it too and don't think it will ever be on TV again.

Did anyone see the Ruby Wax coverage of one of the previous Gumballs across europe, some guy trashed his white 355 spider (number plate LOONY ...and he was) at 140mph+ into a field the car was a complete wreck but the driver and passenger walked away with a few cuts.

It looks to cost almost $9000 to enter. Suddenly the FCA events look a lot cheaper than they did before.

Looking at more of the pics, they really do have quite the extensive lineup going on there. It would be awesome to do this thing. It must cost a fortune though.

Back in the early 80's, my father and close business friend (Jag nut) raced in the US Express. One of the original stealth races just like the original Gumball. He drove a 928 with an additional modified fuel cell that gave them enough fuel for only 3 stops. The race went from LI NY to California. He was lucky and was one of the early ones to leave LI and actualy made it to CA first, but with elapsed time, came in second behind a Pantara (co driver was a Mech and he needed it) They made it in 36hrs 40min, to this day still an amazing time. They got no tickets going out, but several of the guy's raced back and they ended up with three tickets. Unfortunatly his friend and co-driver passed away suddenly this year, which would have marked the 20th anniv of the race, which they had not decided how they were going to celebrate.

Hey,

I checked out the website below: http://www.joemacari.com/firstpage.htm

They have a 1999 360F1 Modena Red/Black with 26,000Kms (16,159 miles) on it for 72,995.00 which is 107,806.36 USD.

What does a conversion cost these days and is it worth the hassle?

Nothing wrong with a autobahn broke-in motor. They seem to last longer because of the high temp initial break in that hardens the metal parts better.

Joe

Bretm, The stickers may be vinyl decals. I have used them before for track events--they have no trouble staying on at high speeds and have a pretty mild adhesive, so no damage at all to the paint.

How do they get those stickers to stay on at high speeds yet not mar up the paint?
