The best product that I have found to clean and shine up black anodized aluminum parts/slats on my Ferrari is "Break Free"- CLP (cleaner/lubricant/preservative). It's sold in gun shops. A 4oz. bottle is about $5.00. They also have a web site:

William...I know what you mean about having things nice and "black" or that dull fuzzy looking black. For the frame members on my TR I used duplicolor satin or semi-gloss black and just kinda fogged it on. Make sure you wipe the frames down with acetone or something like that first. As for the grills, I believe they are anodized aluminum. I have heard of some people using gun "bluing" on them but don't know if it truly works. I would like to clean my engine lid grating really good someday, but I look at the amount of work, all the cracks and crevices and just say to heck with it. I'm sure some day I will remove it and give a good going-over. I too would try that back-to-black stuff, at least on the lower rear grill first, just to see what happens. Black items when new look great, but after time and weather exposure, it's a lot of work. Good Luck and keep us posted on your efforts.

William, I remember that inside the front grill, it is painted black. The back grill comes off pretty easy also. Thsi sounds like a nice little project.

well, for starters, theres that black rubber bumper I could use back to black on. but the rest is what I am wondering about. for instance:
1. the grill under neath the back bumper in front of the exhaust. its faded black.
2. the rear grill between the back light clusters. the wire mesh and bracketry is black but faded as well.
3. open the rear hatch and there are some round metal structural pieces. black but I would like to freshen them up (give me something to do).
4. Inside the side grates, theres a black vertical "wing" that spaces all the stripes. not sure what material it is but dont think its rubber. would like to blacken that up to new condition.
5. front grill. black but not new looking.
6. rear hatch. the black vent portion of the cover that allows heat out. would like to also freshen up.

I just want to try and make it alittle more "new".

BTW, Inside my front grill is painted black. its not body color. are all TR's black when you look inside the front grill or is it body colored?

William, it is too far gone? Maybe have to repaint? I had a TR. I would try the Back to Black product.

William -- Can you clarify that you're interested in freshening the black anodized aluminum parts (and not anything rubber/vinyl/plastic)?

back to black always caused more problems for me than it was worth, try either boot polish or just plain Silicone fluid

Try Back to Black. You can find it at Wal-Mart.

I am looking at my engine bay and rear grill on my car last night and was wondering how I "clean" it up. any products recommended for "blackening" these parts? they look kind of tarnished.

any hints?
